Pre-Nursing Jobs

What is a good Pre-Nursing job for someone looking at nursing as a second career? What is the best experience to have and what are the best paying jobs?
I'm looking at Nursing as a career change and hoping to enter an accelerated BSN progam after my pre-reqs are done. I have worked around hospitals for years, but I really have no practical experience in the medical field, but I am a quick learner. I still need to support my family, so minimum wage jobs could only be something I could do part time (after my day job).

So, Any suggestions on where to start?

Avoid St.Anthony's Medical Center. I've worked there 3 years in different places and it never got better. I would try to apply in the BJC network. You have to have time to train though if you want to be a patient care tech. You'll learn alot but you have to commit some time to it. patient care techs usually start around $8.50 with no experience at the places i've been. A secretary at the hospital is great too because you learn all the lingo and how to take orders. They tend to pay their secretaries more too. St. Anthony's started at 9.00.

Just wanted to let you know that after applying several times online for pct positions, I finally got a call from St. John's Creve Couer. I have applied for tons of pct positions at just about every hospital in the St. Louis area and this is the first response I've gotten. So, apparently the way it works is I have an interview next week. If they accept me, training classes start Oct. 5th and run for 6 weeks, M-F 7am-4pm. You have to pass two tests w/ 85%. Then they tell you what openings there are and you pick your top 4 but there is no guarantee you get the dept. or shift you want. Pay starts at $9.40. So that's all the info I was told over the phone. Wish me luck!

Hi

I have tried applying at ST John's but no luck. No one ever calls. Do you think it would be better for me to be more proactive by going into HR, talking with someone and giving them my resume in person. I am also a Medical Asst. It looks like i will be getting into nursing program at Maryville next Fall. Any advice you give me would be much appreciated. Thank you .

Not sure, but showing your face in HR couldn't hurt. It might show you are serious about wanting a position!
