Do any of you guys know how much the VA pay new LPN grads?? I know the benefits are really good any ideas??:rolleyes:

I had interview at VA never heard so far what happened after I submit my paper, does any one knows how long its is to clear from security and how much RN get paid I have RN/BSN and almost 8 years cardiac experiences.

I work for the V. A. in Biloxi. I have worked here as a LPN and RN. As far as the hiring process, it can take weeks to months. Just when you have given up on hearing anything they call you. :-) ha ha ha

I work at a VA center in Kansas. I applied in June, got a call for an interview in September, interviewed in October, got job offer on November, and started in January. I was on top of everything they asked for and it still took about four weeks to actually start. But I love it, I can't believe I wasted even a minute of my carreer anywhere else:)

Have you all started doing self-assessments to go along with your performance evaluations? I work at Micheal E. DeBakey and this is now something that is given to the NPSB for evaluation to see if you meet criteria to move to the next level. I am currently an RN with a BSN, Nurse I, level 2. So I must write for a level 3 before I can become a Nurse II. I was wondering if you have been doing this and if you have any examples of how to answer the criteria in a way that shows you are capable in your position and qualified for the next level.:)

Yes, we are doing this. I had to do write mine for the first time recently. I had no clue what I was doing or what they wanted to know. I was given a guideline but it very generic. It focuses a lot on "outcome". What did you implement and what was the outcome? I just signed my performance appraisal. I better understand, now, what I need to do next time.

I agree. The criteria seems really ambiguous. It just seems as though they are making it more difficult for us nurses to advance on the pay scale. I graduated with a BSN. A few years ago I would have automatically become a Nurse II, but by the time I graduated, the rules had changed to putting the BSN on the Nurse I pay scale. I was so bummed. Now it seems as though I struggling to climb the pay scale. I am currently seeking my MSN and I don't know where I will be or if it will make much difference.

Does having your CCRN advance youon th epay scale? I am considering switching to the VA. I have 2+ years experience, CCRN, and a BSN. The above poster mentioned BSN now being grade I. Is that correct?

I am a Dec '12 graduate and am just researching Hospitals. CAn you tell me anything about the Pre-employment examination at the VA and what the nurse-patient ratio is like??

I just started working at the VA - the pay scale is unbelievable IMHO but the second best part: nurses earn 8 hrs. of leave every pay period. That's 26 vacation days each year - plus 10 holidays- plus sick days. OMGosh I plan to stay here until I retire! i have a copy of the RN pay scale - pay is frozen at the 2010 rates- but I cannot copy & paste the pay scale into this comment, i don't know why. I don't have the LPN scale.

I have my master's degree in nursing- for over 20 yrs, i have over 30 yrs nursing experience and I was offered a nurse 2 step 12 salary. I really expected to be a nurse 3 but I think nurse 3 is for admin / management? whatever, I'm very satisfIed with the salary. THE application process is very long, you must receive written letters from the references. WHat I did was to write the letters for my references, they appreciated it and just tweeked the letters and signed them, mailed the letters to the VA recruiter. Each letter must address the nine domains of nursing - it's all available on the VA website as well as the experience based interview questions. SO I did a LOT of preparation for the interview and -- once selected- you must supply the letters before the VA nursing board evaluates you and rates you according to your experience/ as written in the letters of reference. google VA experience based questions and there are pages of questions, and they did ask me questions from the website- i interviewed for three jobs- hang in there if you're applying- :D Scooter
