Do any of you guys know how much the VA pay new LPN grads?? I know the benefits are really good any ideas??:rolleyes:

What does each step mean? Looking stuff up for wife.

Grades and steps are dependent on your education level and seniority. Plus, there are different pay scales for different locales, and even different jobs. Your most accurate determination of pay would probably come from contacting HR/recruiter and asking them about the specific job and pay for that job/education level.

I currently work for the Houston VA. I have been a nurse for 4 years. My current salary as a Nurse II step 1 is 66k. I have been at the VA for one year. You can't find nursing tables for big cities on the internet. I don't know why but you can't. There are 5 levels LVN's and new grads fall under nurse 1 I believe. The nurse recruiter would definitely be able to give you the current salary for new grads. I can't speak to LVN's so much but RN grads are probably starting at 23-24/hr

I have BSN and I am currently working at the VA as well. I am a Nurse II step 3. However, I was an LVN prior to getting my RN and the VA does not count LVN experience. I think this sucks! Also, I really don't like it there. They are not pro-nursing by any means. It says its Magnet but truthfully they are not what I consider a Magnet Hospital. They have a long way to go. Just a thought!

Do you know if all BSN nurses start at level 2? or is that just because of your locale/experience? Also, did they start you at step 3 or is that the result of raises (if yes, over what time period did they give you a raise?).

I am not a new graduate. I have been nursing for over 16 years. Also, I have 2 certifications. My RN experience (6 years) LVN experience (10 years). Even though they did not count my LVN experience, this is what I started at.

I'm a LPN and work for the Gulf Coast VA. LPN's in the VA system are only GS 5 or GS 6. Each Grade has steps. For example, I'm a GS6 Step 2. RN's are on a totally different payscale. They are not GS's.

I have been working for the VA almost 2 years and love it. I've been a LPN almost 6 years.

I work for the VA hospital in Memphis, Tn and as a new grad ( RN-BSN) with no exp. I started off as a nurse 1/step 4. RNs are not considered GS employees they are considered title 38 and are on a different pay scale. My starting base salary is 50,800 not including differentials or holiday pay.

I was just curious as to how long have you been working there?

Also, I thought they started BSN-RN's at grade 2/step 1? Did you have your BSN when you started or did you get it after you started working?

Can you explain tol me how the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) works in the VA Hospital system? And how much does the 401k plan match per dollar? And how long do you have work in the sytsem before you become vested?

How much is night shift and weekend diff pay?

I started working for the VA at the beginning of April so for about 5.5 months now. RN-BSN are supposed to start off Nurse 2, but since I had no exp. I started off as a nurse1 step 4. After 2 yrs I move up to nurse 2. If you have experience and have a BSN you start off at least at nurse 2 step 1. I started off with my BSN.

The FERS system works something like this. It's a three tier program.

1. Federal retirement (which they only take a few dollars out of your check a week, depending on your salary.) Which in the end doesn't add up to very much.

2. Social security (which depending on when you plan to retire may be absolete).

3. TSP (it's basically the same thing as a 401k, you are vested after 3 yrs. they match dollar for dollar up to the first 3% that you contribute and after the first 3% if contribute up to 5% of your salary they match 0.50 cents for every dollar

RNs receive 5 wks of vacation and 2 wks of sick leave-title 38 employees only starting off. If you are a LPN you are considered a GS employee and only start off with 2wks vacation and 2wks of sick leave.
