Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

Hey Ya'll.. I now live in Arkansas but I was born and lived in MS for 23yrs of my life... :)

My family lives in Central MS.. I started Hinds nursing program back in 99... Hated it.. Quit.. Got a degree in another field, moved to Arkansas after hubby graduated from MSU... Hated my first career, so I decided to give nursing school another shot.. This nursing program is MUCH better.. and I graduate in December (RN program)

Good Luck to all you MS people ;)

Hey, I'm Brian, I too am from the Jackson area. I have been a nurse for nearly 8 years. I will be leaving bedside nursing shortly to start CRNA school in January. Just wanted to say hello........

Hi everyone! I live in Gulfport. It is great to see a section for Mississipians. I'm orginally from NC and have lived here for almost 10 years. I just graduated from practical nurse school in July and recieved my license in August. I didn't waste any time. I started working at a local hospital in September. I work in Orthopedics/Neuro. So far I really like it. I have a lot more to learn. Next semester I'm going to start taking some of my prereqs for RN. I don't know if I'm going to bridge in the ADN/ASN or just go for my BSN. I have a GI Bill I need to use soooon. Enough of me babbling. Just wanted to introduce myself. Have a great day!

I'm an O.R. Nurse and could write a book!! I have gotten enough experience, though, and landed a great job as a sales rep. with a surgical supply company, awesome how the experience is going to pay off!! I was widowed in 1998 and thought my life and career was over!! I was wrong!!! I wrote my own resume' and researched surgical instrument companies for weeks before submitting my resume' by fax, and here I am!!!! It was soooo worth it!!!!

Hi Roxy, just read your post. So you were an OR nurse. Did you ever scrub? I am going to start a surgical technology program this January and was wondering if later I may be able to get into sales. How long did it take you working as an OR nurse before advancing on to sales? I am full of questions about the OR. I have been trying to gather info from every OR nurse and scrub tech I can. I am doing cna now. Any answers you can give will be much needed and appreciated. Thanks a bunch:) P.S. Is the pay much better as sales rep.

Now in CA, doing the travel nursing bit...been away for 4 months, and missing kids, humidity, and peace and quiet! Hoping to come home (for keeps) soon...It is sad that hospitals can't (won't) pay what the travel companies do for permanent staff.

Hey everybody!

My name is Kacie and I am counting down the days until I take my NCLEX in Feb! I just graduated from USM Hattiesburg in December and am currently working as an ER tech at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. I like the coastal scene but I'm a transplant. I'm originally from a small town closer to Jackson. (It's one of those small-enough-to-be-non-existent towns) I will be working telemetry when I take my NCLEX. Just one step on my way to working in the ER.

Nice to meet ya'll!

all the best,

Kacie

Hello fellow nurses in MS

I am an LPN of three years, recently unemployed due to hospice facility closing down due to poor management,so now I'm caught in the middle of going back to school for my RN or taking online classes through EC or Deaconess I am married with a blessing of 3 children I am also awaiting that glorious day when the Nissan plant calls my husband he has applied and just finished the training, he has a degree in engineering and he did very well and they all are suppose to hear something this month, so pray for us in that area, I firmly believe in prayer and besides I live in one of those very small towns also poor job opportunity I would love to live closer to the Brandon, Pearl area. I love this website!!!:) :) :)

Welcome, Lisa!

What part of MS are you from? I work with a bunch of engineers, and know of at least one who's left here to go to work for Nissan... hope your hubby hears something on that front soon! :)
