cannot find job on Gulf coast

I have been job hunting for around two months.I had to evacuate due to Hurricane Gustav during that time so it threw a wrench in things.
I literally cannot find a job.Its even hard to get an interview.When I do and feel like I've aced it,they end up choosing someone else.
Also they always tell me that they are still going to interview other people.I send thank you letters after the interviews,I do *everything* right.
I am starting to wonder if its because I am not from here and did not go to school here?
I am broke and I dont know what to do.The "job center" is a bust too.
Also I am an LPN not an RN so that makes it really hard.
