Any new grads having a hard time finding a job??

Just curious. Any new grad RNs having a hard time finding a job? I graduated in Dec. and CAN'T find a job to save my life. I've applied for numerous jobs at all the hospitals and various clinics on the coast and STILL haven't gotten anything. Is anyone else having this problem? Any advice/suggestions? I'm willing to commute to get experience...

Thanks for the info re Memorial. I applied for a mental health job there, but heard nothing back.

I wasn't sure whether it is OK to contact nurse managers personally. It's what I have done in the past, but then I read somewhere it was a no-no. If it's OK, I will start harrassing nurse managers all over the place!!!! :D

I am not a new grad, but I did just pass NCLEX in October. I am an Australian trained RN, mostly experienced in OR nursing. I haven't worked in a few years, though. I am considering asking the Nurse Recruiter at OS Hospital if they would consider me doing an unpaid clinical for 6 weeks or so in lieu of a formal refresher. (I figure since I passed the boards that my theory is just fine. :D It's my clinical skills that need work.) Anyone think that will work? Although experience is in OR, I have always wanted to do OBGYN, and want to be a NP eventually. So I did apply for the L&D PRN position, but have heard nothing.

Good luck, y'all. ;)

Hi aussieginnie, there are some jobs jackson... I got interviewed the other week for an OR position in Baptist. As much as i would love tod go to the OR, it will take several more weeks for the NM to decide since there are also candidates. I got a job an another hospital who offered the job right off interview. And dont wanna let go of that sure opportunity...have you tried applying on hospital websites? Am wishing you guys the best! God bless!

So, have they given you feedback on that "informal refresher"? I think I may be in the same boat because I'm moving after I take my NCLEX and heard that the area I'm moving to is oversaturated. I just get scared about losing skills and knowledge if I don't at least work part time immediately after.

Have you tried riverregion.com? I don't know where you live; but this is in vicksburg, ms. right next to Jackson, MS. They are hiring new grads. Good luck

I am from an area about 60 miles North of Jackson, I have applications in at all Jackson area hospitals, Meridian Hospitals, and even local clinics and nursing homes. I graduated May 2010, and passed boards June 2010, and have yet to find anything. I was on scholarship with a hospital in Jackson, and they did me very wrong. Promised me a day job from the get go, and at the last minute, couldn't honor that promise, AFTER all the other hospitals had hired their new grads. I suppose trying to get me to take a night job, but because of family situations, I can't work a night shift.

One hospital hired 55 grads, and wont hire any more until that batch gets out of orientation in late September. I interviewed with University, and due to my strong Christian background, I feel like the recruiter that interviewed me, didn't like me because of his certain lifestyle choices. I haven't heard back from them. Its very frustrating because all the hospitals want EXPERIENCED nurses, well if they don't give us NEW nurses a chance, then what can we do?!?!!!!

That's got to be quite frustrating. I graduated in April. Passed boards in June, and immediately got a job at River Region. The pay isn't all that great; but I work the Baylor/weekend option which pays a few dollars more an hour. Vicksburg is about 30 miles past Jackson (west of Jackson). PM me if you can't find anything closer.

I live far too south of Vicksburg, thanks though :)

I am still applying everywhere I can.. still no call backs.. I will keep everyone updated.

Best of luck to everyone.

hey there I just graduated in May 2010. And am having a difficult time finding a job. I did hear that when I would graduate there would a difficult time finding a job... but I didnt know it would be this difficult. I am so worried and keeping thinking in the back of mind if I will EVER get a job, I am applying everywhere and try hard each day that I go out job searching all I can do is pray and keep trying.

Im having a somewhat of a hard time finding a job! It's becoming a bit frustrating. I passed my exam in December 2010 and jumped right on applying for hospitals.....all of my apps and still in review and then all of a sudden the position disappears. I thought there was a nursing shortage! Apparently NOT!

I'm originally from MS, but I am in nursing school in Alabama right now. Mobile is hiring like crazy at all the hospitals. Where I am doing my clinicals at they already are asking for our resumes to higher us and I'm only in my second semester. Good luck though:)

Really not trying to relocate right now but thanks tho......It might become and option to relocate if I don't get a job by the end of the month.

Good luck to you and your studies!

I sent apps and resumes to most of the hospitals on the coast and didn't get any hits either. Are you open to moving...? I just got picked up by Baptist in Jackson. During my interview, I was told that there were a number of new grad positions open. Worth looking.
