Anyone know what pay rate is for GN's at for profit hospitals in Jackson area? My friend was told that a nurse manager could make 100k based on profitability of the area you manage. I work as an er tech in charitable hospital and have seen 12 nurses leave in three months. Is life better at for profits or just doing clinical hours 8-5 m-f?

As far as I know, around $16/hour is the base new grad pay for ALL the hospitals in the metro Jackson area. Of course, weekend option pays more (around $24 at Baptist I know, not sure elsewhere).

There have been several raises in the last month or two for nurses in Mississippi. I know state employed nurses (RN) are in the 18.25-18.50 range for starting and some hospitals pay that as well. Ofcourse experience will get you more. I know many experienced nurses making $23-24 before any diff. Starting salaries can be misleading... you wont make that forever.

What are you doing to make 35 Hr?? I start ADN program in a few weeks and already wondering if I need to get some additional certifiction in cardiac care or oncology to make more money in the long term. I work as a tech in a jaxsn hospital and have seen about 15 nurses leave in last 4 months most for more $$ and less headache!

I'd be taking a HUGE pay cut....or if I finish the RN program and moved down there, I'd only make a dollar more an hour???!!!?
I just graduated RN school, Got my license 1 month ago - I am working in L/D. My starting pay??? $15.65 hr. I get $1.00 shift/diff afer 3, and and extra $1 after 11p. This is in rural Arkansas though. It's a little disappointing. Everyone says - oh wow - now you're an RN - you'll have it made - I guess I would if I worked tons of OT - but part of my reasoning for becoming a nurse is to work the 3 12's & be off & home with my family more - so don't want to get into pulling the extra shifts - or traveling. I made $12 as a secretary at a bank - so feel like our RN pay is too low.

I work for the state at UMC and I make $16.50/hr base pay, plus my shift diff. RN pay is crappy!

We have had several hospitals come speak to us at school. Baptist is paying !6.50 hr, singing river is paying 16.50 hr, CMMC stated that they just raised their pay to 18.50 hr and UMC is $20.00 an hour. there is a rumor that Baptist is about to announce an increase by the end of the year??
there are still the differential increases for nights, weekends, etc.
our class won't graduate until 2008 so hopefully more increases by then!

I'm a new grad (5/2006 from NEMCC) and I started out at $19.20 per hour plus $2/hr from 7p-11p and $3/hr from 11p-7a at a privately owned hospital near the TN state line.

Hi,
I graduated from the nursing program at Hinds Community College in 1980. I moved from Mississippi to Arizona in 1999. New grads in Arizona are starting at 26-30 an hour. I work with a couple of nurses who graduated last December and both are making over 30.00 an hour. I am shocked that the pay in Mississippi is so low. When I first moved to Phoenix, the pay was a little less than I made in Mississippi but over the past 2 years my pay has gone up a lot. I would have thought the pay in Mississippi would have gone up also. Anyway, I wish you all luck. Starting your career in nursing can be difficult and exciting at the same time. There are some good hospitals in Mississippi. I never worked at UMC but I know it is a great place to work and learn.

Thanks,
movedtoaz
