USM Gulf Coast

Hello,

I'm currently a LPN with a B.S. in biology and would like to get a BSN. My dilemma is this..i'm not sure if I want to go to USM's program or William Carey. I'm also toying with the idea with getting a ADN from MGCCC and just work on getting a BSN online. I guess the problem is quality of education. Not sure what any of these places have to offer. Can anyone shed some light?

Quality of the education? That is totally up to the individual. Both programs are good. I work with USA, William Carey, and Southern Mississippi graduates. Like any program, some students excel in the work field while others seem to barely get by. I myself went to USM on the Gulf Coast. I believe they train me well. You have to remember, nursing school just teaches you the basics. Don't expect to know how to manage a ventric drain right out of school or to interpret a 12-lead ekg. I was able to get my CCRN one year out of USM's program and passed with a 88% without really studying (just the three days before the test), so they are a great program.

If I where you, I would consider the cost of an education. With the Mississippi State Nurses Grant, I was able to pay for 95% of my USM nursing school. Being William Carey is a private school, look to pay way more, IMO.

I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for your response! Can you elaborate on the MS State Nurses Grant? Is that like what the state offers teachers? Free tuition if you go work in under-served area?
