Meridian Hospitals

I am a new RN (graduated dec.14 woo-hoo) have been an LPN for 18 years. I am planning on moving to Meridian MS in the summer. I live within 65 miles of there now so this won't be a huge change. Have visited there a few times. My question is about the three hospitals there. (Rush, Riley, and Jeff Anderson). Any info on these hospitals? Is one better to work for than the other? Pay differences? I will be working in telemetry here until we move.(6 months). Any info appreciated. Also Looking into Clarkdale school for my youngest. Any advice appreciated.

Hi! I can't give you first hand experience, but can tell you that my sister-in-law who has been a nurse for about 6 years has worked at all three of the hospitals you have listed. She is currently working at Jeff Anderson and from what I understand she LOVES her job. She works PRN, (but 36 hrs) in the Emergency Room. I will see what I can find out from her and maybe give you a little more insight!

I am entering the RN program at Hinds CC in Jackson, MS in about 2 weeks....do you have any suggestions on how to survive and adjust?

Thanks!

Thanks so much for the reply. I have heard some good things about Jeff Anderson. I would love it if your sis could pass on some more insight. I appreciate this info. I would love working the ER but not sure I could hold up.( I'm 43). Well as far as advice, just be patient and organized. Try not to stress too much! Don't get caught up in the classroom drama.(you'll realize what I mean after the first semester) and take everything the instructors say literally. If they say don't show up without your drug cards, read about the diagnosis, don't wear any jewelery etc follow their instructions exactly! They take their rules very seriously. It gets better with each semester, at least where I went to school. Being an older student , I also had a little trouble adjusted to being in the student role again. Nothing more fun than having a "20 something" instructor with a couple of years experience telling me what to do! But I got through it, thank God! Just keep telling yourself "It won't last forever" I think the first semester is used for the "weeding out process."lol Be prepared each day(class and clinical) and they (the instructors) won't have any reason to target you.

I will see my sister-in-law when we go to Philadelphia this weekend so I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks for the advice on how to handle nursing school!

I have worked at Riley's and Jeff Anderson. Anderson's is the best of the 3. I worked ICU, OR, and prn pool at Anderson's. Good team there. Pay in Meridian is not that great for staff positions, but if you have to live there, you have to deal with it.
