Any new grads having a hard time finding a job??

The problem is not the amount of job openings available, because there are plenty of openings here on the coast but its a matter of are they willing to hire and train new grads. From my experience and several others the answer right now is NO. I'm sure in the Jackson area the job market is more favorable for new grads, but in this area it's not. The only position I've been able to find besides volunteering is a temporary job giving out flu shots. Hopefully this will give me the experience I need to get my foot in the door somewhere permanently.

If you have a job in this economic times, you better NOT quit it. Nursing is not a recession proof job. If you want a recession proof job you better go into education. There are people getting laid off from nursing all over the US. Some hospitals have hiring freezes and some are closing across the US. I'm not knocking nursing because I got accepted into a Fall program. You just better have faith in God to get a job even in nursing. If you have a job, you should just arrange your schedule around nursing school. I wouldn't suggest quitting it. Again, I suggest you to have faith in God. God's people are prospering and finding jobs in this economy other's who aren't connected to God are the one's who are worried. I know folks might get mad, but it is the truth. This is not the time to fall off with your relationship with God. I just felt that I should add that.

Ummm..wow. I'm thinking that the economy/job security crisis does NOT have any relation to a person's faith (or lack thereof). People of every religious/non-religious persuasion are suffering right now. Your caveat "I know folks might get mad, but it is the truth" is patently absurd. It's right up there with winning sports teams who give credit to God. As though God cares about the Atlanta Braves or baseball. Are you familiar with the term anecdotal evidence? If not--I'm sure you'll learn a few things about evidence based practice (not doing something/saying something that flies in the face of logic and genuine evidence). Nursing school (should) develop your critical thinking skills.

If you're so sure that "God's people are prospering and finding jobs in this economy" I'd like to introduce you to about thirty people in my church who are financially devastated. I'm sure they'd be comforted by your "facts".

Quite frankly I am not even going to bother to apologize for the negative tone of this reply. You opened this can of worms and stating as fact that "God's people are the ones who are prospering" is a massive insult to those who are dedicated to God and are homeless, jobless, being forclosed on, having their hours cut back, their benefits cut, their jobs out-sourced, etc.

BTW--God never meant the life of a Christian to be easy. How else could our resolve be tested? Everyone suffers. Believers and non-believers. We are all worthy of security. Not just "God's people". Sheesh!

Vanillavirtue, I hope as you begin your nursing education you learn to only express opinions when you have proof or experience to back them up. I can't speak for CMMC but... Have you worked at UMC? Have you applied for a job there? The fact is that in December and May there were more applicants than there were RN positions. UMC is a Level 1 trauma center with 4 adult ICUs. It has the only Level 3 NICU, the only Peds ER, and the only PICU in the state. PICU and NICU will soon have ECMO capability. I don't work there because I couldn't get a job anywhere else; I work there because I didn't want a job anywhere else. State retirement and insurance don't hurt either! Yeah there are some floors no one wants to work on, but that's true at all hospitals. Also as you begin to do clinicals please don't discuss religion with patients using the tone you did above. I have met many patients with very strong faith who were suffering terribly. Keep in mind that even in Mississippi not everyone worships Him the same way.
