Where to work and RN wages in MN

U.S.A. Minnesota

Published

This is my first ever post, so if this is in the wrong spot please guide me on where to put it in the future!! I just moved to MN two weeks ago. I live in one of the suburbs just east of minneapolis. I'm a new grad and will hopefully have my license within two weeks. I have an ADN. Can anyone please tell me where I should be applying? I'm having difficulties finding job openings that will accept my qualifications on hospital websites. Do you go online or just go to the hospital in person? Or do I need to start at a LTC facility? My dream is L&D but everywhere requres 1 yr L&D experience. How am I supposed to get that experience??? Ill be starting my BSN in august. Also what are the starting wages for various positions here in MN? At hospitals, LTC, home health care, etc. Thanks for the help!!!

New grad jobs can be hard to come by in the hospitals, but not impossible. Starting pay at hospital is anywhere from 28-31 an hour as a new grad. To get into l & d, you may have to pick a different area then transfer after 6 - 12 months. Enjoy MN, I love it here.

28-31 is starting wage for a new RN in Minneapolis area?! Much lower than what I anticipated as at the facility I work at now in Scottsdale, AZ pays LPN's $23/hour.

Thanks! I have an interview at a nursing home this week. Looks like I might start there for 6-12 months. Then I'll try to get into any department I can at a hospital and just work y way over to l&d. That's longer than I wanted to take but I'll do whatever it takes to get there! Thanks for the reply! :)

I suggest checking out Allina Health! I work for one of the clinics, and they are such an incredible health system. Abbott Northwestern is ranked as the second best hospital in Minnesota and also nationally ranked, I think 30th? I have my sights set there for the future perhaps :)

If you check out glass door website you can see the varying pay scale for hospitals in MN. I think that JMEMNRN is right in that $28-$31/hr is avg starting wage in MN.

For Allina you have to apply under the new grad program which is listed under Allina commons (the corporate location, near Abbott though) unless you have at least 1 year of experience post-grad.

I just applied to Allina's new grad program. I will have my ADN in May. Do I have good chances of getting a job there even though I don't have my BSN? I have 5 years of CNA experience and a bachelor's degree in Psychology.

I'm also going to be relocating to MN so I'm in the same boat with you kschafer12 :)

Allina prefers BSNs. That means that they'll take a BSN before you. That's not to say that you won't get the job - you're just going to be at the end of the line.

I am relocating to MN in the summer as well and trying to see how far in advance should I apply to jobs out there.

How long did it take for them to contact you for interviews??

What system are you looking ton interview for? The big players are Allina, Fairview, Health East, Health Partners, and HCMC.

I am not sure what is normal to start applying for jobs, but I graduate in May and started applying now just to get my name out there. I actually got a call back and am asked to interview in a couple weeks but I hope they know that I don't graduate until May! I also talked to a Regions Nursing Manager and she said to wait until license is in hand. That is a little too close for comfort to me but I mean whatever works!
