MSN degree at Metro State?

Anyone in this program or apllying to it? I'm just starting out with prereqs in January, it'll take me awhile to get through them as I have no science background to speak of. I aready have a master's degree, so the idea of a direct entry master's degree appeals to me, and this one seems a bit less intense than the U. I'd love any insights into the school or degree. Also, reccomendations for other programs to apply to? I'm willing to apply for ADN deggrees as I know competition is fierce, but I'd prefer a Master's or accelerated BSN. I have to stay in the metro area.

Minn State Mankato is actually very commutable....(Trust me I drive from St Peter daily to MPLS.)

Most of their clinicals are in Metro hospitals so I would add their accelerated BSN to your list....

Thanks! I won't rule it out. How long does the drive take? I'm guessing about 1 1/2 hours? I have two little ones so I don't relish taking even more time away from them by driving 3 hours a day on top of all the classes and clinicals. However, I'm keeping an open mind!

Hi, I was looking at Mankato, too. Sadly, they are canceling their ABSN program for Fall 2010 and they said Fall 2011 is a maybe depending on budget. I wish there were more options for people like us. Surprisingly, ADN programs have a really long wait, two years sometimes if you're waitlisted. They prefer people who took their prereqs at their school and have some CNA or other healthcare experience. St. Kate's has a post-baccalaureate program where you can start out in the program without any prereqs - however they too are not accepting applications until next year due to lack of space.

Not to be downer, don't give up if it's really something you want to do. I am still continuing. Metro State seems like a great option, you should talk to their admissions counselor. I am still doing prereqs and won't apply till next fall for nursing schools. There's always the option of going the traditional BSN route, too if you have the money and time.

I hear rumors that St Cloud State is going to start an LPN to BSN and RN-BSN program (they also have an accelerated)... not sure when the new ones will start though, but might be worth a shot to give them a call...

classes are usually 2 days per week with the balance of the week at clinical sites....

I can leave St Peter and get to the VA in 65-75 minutes....

Hopefully they will reopen MSU's absn. It really was a good experience overall....
