I'm applying for a unit assistant position in ICU (7p-7a) on Monday and would appreciate any suggestions and advice that would help me make a better impression. I have almost a year before I can start the nursing program and by the end of this semester, I will be finished with all of my prereqs for the program. I do have a medical secretary background but not in a critical care unit.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. Kris,

I think the fact that you are going into the nursing program will be a big plus!!!

    Good luck on Monday!
  5. Thanks USA987, I appreciate your good wishes. I'm hoping that my future intentions work in my favor as well as willing to work a shift that is not a popular one. For me though, I think it would be perfect, especially since I do plan to stay with it for a while even while in school.
  6. 2b,
I think that you should also convey to your interviewers that you're interested in working with them because of all the educational opportunities working in ICU as a student offers. You could also talk about the benefits of getting comfortable in the setting prior to getting your license. I know that eagerness to learn is a huge plus with our assistants, and it sounds to me like you would be a shoo-in. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
  7. Thanks Elenaster,

I had my interview this morning and it did go well...I think! I'm waiting to here from human resources what my next step will be. I'm a little anxious but I definitely do think that this will be an educational experience.
