I just bought a book that I enjoy. It is called
CRITICAL CARE NURSING SECRETS 2nd edition by Hildy M Schell and Kathleen A. Puntillo ISBN 0323041787.

this is alittle late to respond to your question as you may have already have purchased some type of icu reference material. i agree with some of the above posts, i to like The Icu Book, and ICUFAQ'S. when i was studying for ccrn, i was given a copy of "Critical Car Nursing made Incredibly Easy by lippincott williams & wilkins". its sort of like the icu book, pretty strait foreward and explains things without alot of fancy jargon. i now pass the book along to all the new folks that come to our unit's. it's really a easy read and gets to the nuts and bolts of things. but what ever book you decide to get, look at who the books contributors and consultants on the material. make sure they are actual practicing rn's that work in icu's. i've seen some books that are written by education types and they read just like an nursing school book "long and boring" and you have to read through so much to get to the point. good luck...

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the responses. I'm thinking of purchasing 'The ICU Book' based on the recommendations here. I read reviews on amazon, and some folks believe the earlier editions are better than the current 3rd edition. I usually assume the latest edition is better than previous ones. Would anyone who has read the different editions please let me know if indeed the older editions are better or if I should go ahead and get the 3rd ed.

Thank you!!
