We barely started using flexiseals in our unit last year, and now pts are accepting them. Have not needed to use nasal trumpets attached to foley bags anymore.

Yes, used to do this all the time! Until everyone caught up w/it...no we aren't allowed.

I like the bags that catch the poop, that way you don't have to insert anything....or stretch anything.

What do you mean caught up with it? Did you have sentinel events? I have heard of some from rectal trumpet.

Four years ago I came across a study done on liver transplants up north somewhere and they used the trumpet with success. Can you imagine the diarrhea there. Our facility said it was cool to use and then wouldn't you know it they started to buy all the new fangled stool collection devices! I actually got a pat on the back for that innovative use of standard technology! Chicago I think...just look for liver transplants and nasal trumpets!
