Re: I am an ICU Nurse!!!
Congrats! I know how elated you are!! I was also accepted into ICU as a new grad..today was my last day on orientation, although i have been basically on my own since my second week. I came off orientation 4 weeks early, simply because all the staff and physicians felt i was competant and they needed me in staffing. My best advice is to get in there and show them you mean business, and that you are confident and knowledgeable. DO NOT go in there and just "follow" people around all day...jump on in and get your feet wet early on, learn as you go, and always question anything you are unsure of, even if you think it is a dumb question. Develop a good relationship with your coworkers, and make your self available to help whenever you can. If you feel you arent getting appropriate training from you preceptor, ask to change. Do not let yourself be shorted. You got the job, now get in there and show them what you can do!
