Grad school? NP program for new grad, first week in ICU. Is it worth it?

Am a new grad. About 2 weeks in working the ICU. Is great, but have a lot to learn. Already thinking about grad school. Am 32 (old), no kids, but serious girlfriend. Is it worth it? Is it possible to go through program part time while working as an RN?

It's definitely possible, but when would you be looking to start an NP program? You will probably be better able to juggle both if you are at least off of your ICU orientation and able to function on your own.

I'm in a similar boat... been off of orientation in ICU for a couple of months now, looking at ACNP. I think it would be manageable, but my problem is that I have no desire to leave my hospital or the area that I live in, and there are no jobs here for ACNP's. My hospital won't hire them, and while the MD's are willing to let me do my clinical hours with them, none have jobs available.

If this is what you really want, I think you should go for it, because education is never wasted. But consider how far you are willing to go, and whether or not you are willing to relocate if needed to get an ACNP job. Good luck
