BSN Student-->Aide Interview in MICU!

hi all,

I am 2nd career ABSN student and have finished three clinical rotations (Med-Surg I, Peds, & Maternity). I've been applying for aide positions at area hospitals and I just got a call from HR to interview for a per diem aide position in the MICU next week!!

I'm looking for input from you all--what will they be looking for in the interview? What qualities do you feel make a great ICU aide? I spent one day of clinical observing in the neuro ICU this summer and saw and learned so much... I'm thrilled to have the chance to work in a critical care environment.

Thanks for any input you can give!

By now, your interview is probably over & done with....sorry I didn't see your post till now. I hope it went well for you!

In our ICU, the best aides seem to be very willing to lend a hand with bathing/turning/transporting patients. They know the stock room very well, so if a doc is placing a central line or chest tube or..., they can run & grab whatever is needed.

A great ICU aide would hopefully be good at doing their job, while getting along with the current ICU members (each of whom may have a different personality style). They work within their scope of practice, yet seem interested in what the nurses/docs are doing. They respond to call lights and can anticipate what might be needed in a given situation. They do their jobs without being asked to.

Let us know how your interview went.

CrufflerJJ, also a 2nd degree ABSN type currently working in an ICU....and loving it!
