Vanguard to Purchase DMC?

This is front page news today that Vangaurd, a for profit agency, is in the works to purchase the debt ridden DMC. As a former employee, changes are most certainly in order. For all DMC employees, do you think this is a change in the right direction? Has anyone worked for a 'For Profit' hospital?

I think it will be good. Our system provides great care, but the facilities really need updating. Some of the buildings are over 100 years old. If you look at the plans they have, they are really great updates. It seems like a win-win situation. From what I heard at work yesterday, Vanguard isn't a buy-and-slash kind of company. They invest in the companies they buy and work with them. I sure hope that's the case....

I'm a former employee of DMC at RIM and Harper. After reading the article, the deal doesn't sound too bad at all. I remember the days of working at the DMC and almost constantly hearing the message that the system is not doing so well financially and will have to close hospitals. It is always sad to hear that because DMC is a great bunch of hospitals that seem underappreciated for the services they provide to the city and the metro area as well. I hope this deal really works out in modernizing the DMC and help it compete with stronger Michigan health systems and hopefully, put the DMC back on the national spotlight.
