OU ABSN Interviews for May 2011 Cohort

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hi guys! Interviews started today for the May 2011 cohort, and I think I was one of the first few to interview. I know we can't talk about specific questions that were asked during the interview, but I just wanted to see if anyone would like to share their reactions/experience here.

I personally felt pretty good, I did get one "I love your answer!" so that made me feel a little more secure:D since I felt like I stumbled on this one other question. I did feel a little rushed since they told me the interview would be super short right in the beginning  (did anyone else feel that way?) I didn't get a clear answer on where we will be having clinicals/classes though....

I'm sure it will be another month after interviews end until we all get mailed acceptance letters.

Any thoughts you would like to share?.....

So how is everyone doing? I just got a letter in the mail that says OU will be intervieweing in late October/early November and we will receive decisions by December 15th. Did anyone else get that letter? I haven't been asked to interview quite yet though. Has anyone received an invitation to interview?

I got the same letter in the mail today and no I have not been asked to interview yet.

Hi all who reapplied,

I was wondering if anyone knows how many students have applied for this cohort or if they get more or fewer applications at this time of year. I was trying to determine if the odds of getting accepted are better this time of year.

Thanks all.

I know I'm not in it but I just wanted to say good luck to you guys taht re-applied and I hope to see some good news on here soon :) Do you know when you find out?

We are supposed to all find out by December 15th. Right in time for the holidays.... I'm not sure if that's good or bad. I'm trying to stay positive. I completely rewrote my essay, so I am hoping that they know more about me and what my goals are. That way, maybe my next interview will go more smoothly.

Just checking in - has anyone received an invitation for an interview yet? I have not. I was just wondering. :)

Not sure if anyone is checking this much anymore, but just wanted to let you guys know that I received a request for an interview today. :) Fingers crossed!

First of all, just want to wish everyone of you who are going to be interviewing in the next few weeks all the very best! Secondly, also wanted to add that I was just bumped up a semester from May 2011 to January 2011. I have been crossing my fingers for that one! I was not sure if they would be able to do it, but looks like they were!

I'm only writing this because I know I've been searching the boards to see if anyone else was able to get bumped up and have not found a post about it yet. Good luck to everyone!:yeah:

Congrats cdertiz!!

I never received the letter about the decision dates being Dec. 15, but my interview is coming up in a couple days.... I'm a lot less confident and more nervous than I was the first time around. I think I took the interview for granted... definitely trying to focus more this time around. You have any tips for the interview, cdertiz?

Hi I see some of you are still interviewing for the first or second times. I am starting the program in a few months and wanted to share my thoughts on the interview process. I have posted some suggestions before but will rehash a few more. The best thing to do is to be confident in yourself and know WHY YOU WANT TO BE A NURSE!! I put this in caps because many don't even know how to answer this very simple question. The interview is critical because they want to make sure you are in it for the right reasons. Space is very limited and they don't want to waste one on someone who isn't 100 % sure if this is the right career choice. You need to sell yourself - if this is truly what you want, it will show. Also, if you have the time, get certified as a CNA. It shows initiative that you want to learn and get experience before you begin the program. The cost is nothing if you get into a program. If you can't afford it, volunteer in a hospital and make sure they know this. Its the little things that will set you apart. Remember everyone else wants exactly what you want so you want to stand out. Bring some good questions to the interview - this may impress them even more. In my opinion, Oakland is one of the most holistic processes for accepting or denying students - which is a good thing. They look at everything so make sure no stone is unturned and you have everything in order. Good luck to everyone who is still interviewing.

Hey again,

Just wanted to clarify that I interviewed in July for the program and was then accepted to start in May 2012. I updated the posting to let you know that I had been bumped up to an earlier semester, as I know others were probably wondering if they were able to do this.

As for the interviews, I agree with the last post in that it is extremely important to know why you want to be a nurse. Be real in the interview and also let them know if you have had any health care experience, even if it's just volunteering.

I took the time to get licensed as a CNA last spring, and then subsequently obtained a job working as a CNA full-time and have really enjoyed it. This was so helpful in my interviews because it truly gave me the confidence to speak with a purpose and I was able to communicate how much I enjoy nursing. Sure, working as a CNA is not glamorous at all, but you get to work with patients, you see what the nurses are doing, and man, do you learn a lot on the job. For those of you who have the time and the money to go through the classes (3 weeks only) via the Red Cross, I highly recommend you do so. After working as a CNA, I can't imagine starting the nursing program without this experience.

I meant to say that I was accepted to May 2011, not 2012:)
