Orientation on Wednesday (11-25) for WCCC!!!

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Woohoo! Orientation is almost here!! Aren't you all excited?!?:yeah:

I hope I have some luck w/the lottery.

Can't wait!!!

:stdnrsrck:

Omg, yes... I totally saw the girl come in at 11:30am (she was in the row in front of me, I was like the 4th person down sitting next to a pretty blond girl). I was like "are you kidding me???". I don't want to say more in case she reads this thread (and I don't want to make her feel bad- stuff happens and I know I BARELY made it as sick as I was), but COME ON... I came with a puke bucket in my car 'just in case' but there was NO WAY I was not going to make it!

I think I saw you, then. I was right in front of the girl that came in - I was the one she tapped on the shoulder and was talking to. I agree, I wouldn't want to make her feel bad. During lunch, someone said she said she'd forgotten it was today or thought it was another day. Given how I've been running around the past few days getting the last of my ducks in a row (those dang ducks!), I'm surprised I didn't forget! Though, y'know, that creeping panic/nausea/"I'm going to throw up, I know it" feeling kept reminding me. ;)

My main concern was Western as well, and I got all Western classes, except I did pod 11, but I meant to do pod 12. :sniff: I was so distracted and sick that I couldn't concentrate and when I went up there I put it on the wrong one and new it was too late to change it. Oh well, it just means I have the one sister instead of the other, and she seemed pretty cool today. I chose Oakwood Anapolis (Annapolis? That's how it was spelled on the sheet) because I *think* it's the closest to me (not that familiar w/the hospitals around here).

Where is Heritage at? In Detroit?

I'd have probably done the same thing, but I think there was only one or two Westerns open when I was called, so I couldn't really mess up at all. I've heard both sisters are very nice, so at least there's that. (You have one, I have the other.) Too bad you didn't get 12, though, or we'd have that together. (By the bye, anyone in Pod 12 or with the sister that wasn't there today [can't name names], do feel free to email me [MSN contact in profile] if you want to set up a study group! Heck, even if you're not in my classes, same thing! :D)

Annapolis is in Romulus on Annapolis Rd, just north of the Van Born/Venoy intersection. Heritage is on Telegraph in Taylor. It's just 2.1 miles from me, so I was quite happy to get that clinical site, especially since I keep hearing that it's going to be a "very snowy" winter. Closer is better! :lol2:

Whoops, I just noticed that Annapolis is in Wayne, not Romulus. I grew up right in that area of Wayne/Romulus, so you'd think I'd have remembered that.

Hi, I was wondering if you guys have looked at and compared the pod list to the 2010 spring academic schedule, some of the class times do not match up. I'm in pod # 10, and on the list we got at orientation it says that Nur 118 is wed from 12-4 but in the academic schedule the class time for that CRN is from 4-8. Also NUR 110 for pods 9-12 says the class is T/R, but in the academic schedule the class is M/R.I was wondering what time is right? I think I will just have to call the nursing department tomorrow.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. I'm in pod 12 and noticed the discrepancy this morning while leafing through the schedule book. I'm inclined to favour the paper, but I definitely want to make sure as well. If you can get through tomorrow (I didn't know they were open tomorrow), let us know what they say?

(Also: Jeez, I post a lot here.)

at the meeting they said the paper was the correct times. the lady closed the schedule book on the girl in front of me and said look only at the paper the book is wrong.

did anyone else think the orientation was a dog and pony show? i cannot believe the incompetence of these people that spout off how we are "professionals". some of them need to practice what they preach.

would it have really been that hard to have a few extra people checking everyone in?

maybe they should of requested a microphone "months ago" in preparation for the meeting. like we have "months" to get our stuff prepared for classes.

it probably would of been a good idea when they were handing out the slips of paper to stand at the microphone and announce that they were handing out the slips of paper and what to do with them.

when they send out the acceptance letters with the forms they should make sure all the correct papers are in the envelope and two sided papers are actually copied on both sides.

when they say your stuff must be correct and complete or you are disqualified then you should be disqualified.

it's a shame the incompetence of these women. oh yeah and the board at the front that had all the message posts on it..... nice little gotcha tactic.

today i am thankful for the first amendment, freedom of speech. :yeah:

hey now, remember that we're being watched! :lol2: (i'm kidding, of course. well, not about being watched, but that you should censor yourself. never, ever, ever.)

anyway, i agree with most of your points, save the "when they say your stuff must be correct and complete or you are disqualified then you should be disqualified. " bit. i don't think someone should be disqualified outright without being contacted. as i said above, my titers results didn't come with numbers, and they won't give them to me. by your logic, i'd be disqualified outright, for something that is in no way my fault. granted, this still may happen, but i'm hoping i'll be contacted somehow to explain or make things right (i'd even re-do the dang titers if told to).

i also wouldn't call them incompetent. i'm not sure if you've ever been to other orientations, but when you get 100+ people together for something, some little things are going to go wrong. granted, signing in before we were all seated would have been ideal, but personally, i didn't see it as a big deal. it's not like it took hours to do, or hindered us from doing what we needed to do. ditto on the mic. maybe it slipped their minds, or x thought y had that covered while y thought z had arranged it.

It was announced the paper was right and the book was WRONG.. after she passed the papers out so I wouldnt waste my time calling the Nursing office. But if u want to check for your own sake go ahead...

Thanks all, I will let you guys know if I hear anything.

Okay, I did see you! I wish I would have realized it then! LOL! And LOL about the ducks. I was the same way... I was beyond anal about it, and had little flag labels on everything, and checked and rechecked, and checked again. :icon_roll

I hear our sisters teach the same exact lesson, so we could still probably get together and study (if interested). :D

I agree- closer is MUCH better! I figure by going to Western instead of the NW campus, I am saving a minimum of 5 hrs a week in drive time! Hey, that's five more hours of STUDY TIME! :specs:

LOL! It's all good. I would have to MapQuest it anyways. I've been in MI for almost 4 years, and I still get lost!

Shannon W I know I cant believe were being wacthed thats so funny! I tried to keep a straight face when I went and read the poster board I was so shocked! All I could think was "did I write anything bad that they would hold against me!" LOL I think one girl knew who I was and pointed me out to some of the other students they never said anything tho all I could do was smile LOL. I dont know if I saw any of u I was so OVERWHELMED! I got called like 70 but still got one of the teachers I wanted I'm in Pod #6 and got clinical at Oakwood Heritage with the northwest campus for lecture the 2nd 7.5 weeks. I'm glad I got a close clinical but kinda mad I have to go to northwest for lecture . Well all and all I'm pretty satisfied with everything!

Hey I didnt rat anyone out i kept my mouth closed lol I just thought it was so funny them putting the post up like that... I ask one of the teachers why they did that and they said to see if they can find out whos who on the site.:coollook:

I think this is the first time I ever wanted a holiday weekend to end before it did. I'm now officially registered for my classes, and now I'm wondering: is it January yet? :D

I hear our sisters teach the same exact lesson, so we could still probably get together and study (if interested).

I've also heard that the sisters teach the same things the same way, and of course I'm interested! I also just realised that there's only one theory/110 and 112 lecture for Westerners, so we'll all have that together, at least.

That's a huge difference! I live in Taylor, so I'm kind of right in the middle (17 miles to NW, 13 to Western), but I just like the Western campus so much more. Of course, we'll still have to journey out to NW to visit the lab there, but oh well.
