MSU or UM-Flint to complete BSN

Hi all,

As you know, I'm currently finishing my pre-reqs to get into a nursing program. I am trying to get into the RN program at LCC and plan to finish my BSN once I complete the RN program (trying to keep costs down!)

I'd love some feedback on completing the BSN through MSU vs. UM-Flint. I live in Lansing, so obviously, MSU is closer. However, LCC does have the university center where I could complete the BSN with UM-Flint.

Anyone have any direct experience with either program? My preference would be MSU, because I'm a huge Spartan fan :) However, MSU also costs more than UM-Flint. It does seem that there are more post-graduate opportunities at MSU.

I'm considering becoming a Nurse Educator down the road.

Any insight would be wonderful!

I am the program coordinator of the RN/BSN program at UM-Flint and would be more than happy to answer any questions you have about our program. We have an articulation agreement with LCC so that many of your ADN courses are recognized by UM-Flint so you do not have to repeat courses. Also, we offer classes at LCC in the mixed mode format. The recruiter there can work with you to select the courses that you can take for your BSN while you are working on your ADN. Thank you for the reply. I will be contacting you in few weeks. If I get accepted at LCC, I'll have a 9 month to 1 year gap (depending on which cohort I'm accepted to) before I start nursing school. During that interim, I'd like to work on classes towards my BSN.

U of M is where I want to go too! They have a BSN to DNP program that I plan (and pray) to get into once I finish my BSN. I find out if I get into WC3's nursing school this week (hopefully) so I hope to talk to you soon also!

LCC just made an agreement with MSU that has some advantages overUofM. When you get into the program they will have an information seminar that goes over everything. If you have extra time you should look up the articulation agreements at LCC.edu and it will also help you with additional classes that are needed for a BSN but not required by LCC... Like chemistry for instance.

I've already chosen MSU as the school where I'd like to the complete the BSN. Since I have a 9 month to 1 year gap between finishing my pre-reqs and (hopefully) starting the RN program, I'm working on classes towards the BSN in the mean time. I met with both MSU & UM-Flint. I liked the MSU program much better. Less "fluff" classes to take and I can finish it quicker than UM-Flint's bridge program.

If I don't get into LCC's RN program, I'm applying directly to the BSN program at MSU. If, for some reason, I don't get in to either program, I will finish my BS in Clinical Laboratory Science and will apply to PA school. (I'm working as a phlebotomist to get PCE hours)

Hello MSNnurse54! Are you still the program coordinator of the RN/BSN program at UM-Flint? I plan to attend WCCCD Nursing program in the Fall of 2015. I would like to know if there are any classes that I can take while enrolled in the nursing program at WCCCD? I would like to earn my BSN degree as soon as possible after I graduate from the nursing program. Thank you in advance.
