by TiffanyRN!! Apr 13, '11Is Karmanos part of the DMC family. I have an interview with them on Monday but I was hired at 1 of DMC Hospitals recently. I would prefer to work at Karmanos if offered the position but wonder if I could balance the 2 since the DMC is part time weekends only. Please offer any advice if possible, just thankful to have options now.

- Apr 15, '11 by faith2011Hey, I got your message but I can't email back, don't have enough posts. Karmanos is a different entity than DMC, it's kind of like they're leasing space from DMC but have nothing to do with them. They use Harper in case a patient needs emergency assistance, because Karmanos only deals with cancer treatment. I start on Monday. As far as I know. Orientation is 10-12wks. What I've been hearing from other people is that the staff and working environment is nice and it's a good place to work for. It's a very nice and clean facility. The pay is different, but not a lot of difference. Good luck. If you get a position I would grab it. In my opinion I think it's a great experience. As far as the interview, the manager I interviewed with asked the basic questions, what's your weakness; how would your previous employer describe you; 3 adjectives to describe yourself kinda thing. You should do fine. Good luck! Let me know how it goes. What unit is it for?
- Apr 15, '11 by TiffanyRN!!Thanks faith2011,when she called I asked was it for the BMT floor and she stated no it's for inpatient so I have no idea as to which inpatient, I applied to so many positions. For orientation is it 8 or 12 hours on day shift? I really want this so I will put my best foot forward lol. I have also heard good things about Karmanos and some of my daughter doctors work over there. Good luck with orientation and feel free to shoot me an email if you want tiffanyhurkes@gmail.com.

I used to work for Karmanos when I was a new nurse in 2006 on the 9th floor which was their post surgical/telemetry unit. I liked it but was overwhelmed, training was OK, but as a new nurse I don't think I should have overseen LPN's - right at the beginning. The caseload on that floor may have changed but I think we would have 6? Or split 8 with an LPN. Good luck! The BMT is very nice, I loved getting pulled to that floor
