Is it okay to ask for a Job Interview?

I applied for a few jobs, and one place I applied for my friend just got hired in there. So my friend tells me to call the facility and ask for the director of nursing, and tell the DON, "I'm a new nurse and I filled out an application already and if it's possibly the I can have an interview for the position?" Is this okay to do?

I think the only thing you can do is call and follow up on the application. I think asking for an interview would be presumptuous. I would just let them know you filled out an application and you were just following up on it.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing, I don't want to seem that way. But my husband said what do I have to lose, right now it's a no because I have not called. He told me to call and ask all they can say is no and then I can move on to the next job. But I think I'll wait a week 1/2 and call to see if my application has been reviewed.

What's the harm in calling and saying that you'd love the opportunity to interview for the position? I did it in the past and even got an interview out of it. I had filled out an application in HR, and then sent a resume/cover letter directly to the manager of the units I was interested in. THEN I left a voice message with the manager I sent the resume to.

Thanks, I call the Don back and she said she is actually in the process of reviewing applications now, so I gave her my name and she said she will review it. So hopefully she'll call me back.

I think it's absolutely okay to ask for an interview, the only 2 job offers I received after graduation were the 2 that I actually asked for an interview, and they were both for ICU's. When I went into the interview, the 1st question the manager asked me was "So, what can we do for you today?" I just told him a little bit about myself and that I was very interested in working on his unit. Then he proceeded to ask me normal interview questions and within 2 or 3 days he called me personally to let me know that HR would be calling me with a job offer and also that he was impressed I was bold enough to go out of my way to contact him and ask for an interview. He thought that if I was bold enough to ask for an interview that I would be bold enough to make sure the patients on his unit would always receive the care they need.

Probably saying that you filled in an application for someone else, would not be a good idea!

As a new grad, I went around nursing recruitment and went directly to the nurse manager of where I wanted to work. Got an interview -- and was then offered a job during the interview.

Thanks for all your help!
