Check out this link to the Detroit News about the Nursing shortage.

Thanks for posting this. It's great to see a governor taking action.

Once again, there is no mention of all the experienced RNs leaving the field -- there are plenty of people already educated and licensed as nurses out there; they're just not willing to put up with the working conditions nowadays in hospitals. As long as everyone focuses on how to increase enrollments in nursing schools (which is all you ever hear about in discussions of the "nursing shortage") without also talking about how to keep experienced nurses working in the field, we'll just be bailing a leaking boat without having fixed the leak.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. . .

No true nursing shortage exists, because 500,000 RNs and an unknown number of LPNs/LVNs have active licensure, yet they are no longer employed in the field of nursing. If all of these nurses were to suddenly return to nursing and accept jobs at the bedside, then the mythical "nursing shortage" would disappear in 1 day.

The so-called "nursing shortage" is a bunch of monkey poop.

Interesting article. I would like to know what hospitals have starting wages of $28/hr?! I think I work in one of the higher paying ones and ours is $23.xx
