Anyone heard of Athena Career Academy?

U.S.A. Michigan

Updated:   Published

So I was searching on the internet for LPN programs in Michigan or Ohio, and this school popped up. I've never heard of them, I was wondering if anyone else had? I called the phone number, and they said there's no wait for the program, they have one starting in May and another in October. The school is in Toledo, and they have clinical sites in Michigan..You have to be a CNA or MA, they offer CNA training...

Hey Miss, I havent heard of that school, but the ones I'm going to test for are in Ohio and they're Professional skills Institute and Toledo School of Practical Nursing. I looked up Athena and I see it's in Wayne Michigan, it didnt say anything about the nursing program, just CNA and Medical Assistants.

I looked up the Ohio board of Nursing and found all of their nursing schools, heres the link http://www.ohiocenterfornursing.org/PDFS/ed_programs/Programs/PNprograms08.pdf. It looks like its a new program.

Maltesegrl, if you think about it, it's probably the same distance depending on where u live in Michigan. Toledo School of Practical Nursing is exactly 1 hour from me, and Professional Skills Institute is exactly 45 minutes when I went for they're informational meeting. PSI is about $5000 more than TSPN so that was the determining factor for me. I'll drive the extra 15 minutes. And think about it, you drive around the city a few hours a day.

I recently moved to Toledo from Detroit to attend LPN classes. I used to be a student at Toledo Sch of pn 2001. Good program!!!! Testing at PSI 5/18/08 TEAS entrance test. Athena. Well I found out about the school through a Blade news paper ad. Their program is 16k and NO grants!! They only take Sally Mae loans. You have to have a co-signer or god credit. Entrance requirements are $250 registretion fee (non refundable), hs/ged, cna/stna class, entrance exam, shots, physical, FBI, cpr/first aid. their # is (419)233-4141. this is the Toledo site. Hope this helps:nurse::nuke:

Peakaboo, your going to attend PSI? Did you use their study guide for the test? And you moved to Toldeo just to attend the PN program, was housing hard to find? The lady from TSPN told me I should move there because they have the WIA program and they would pay for the program, but I found out that the No Worker Left Behind of Michigan will pay for it also. So I'm thinking about taking the drive to Toledo.

Hey sirena922, I didn"t know WIA would pay for TSPN!!! Where do I look into that at? I moved because of GAS PRICES! I have a small car and at $3.45/gal 2 ways 5 days a week I'd have to pay $100wk for gas. But gas is only going up!!:banghead:I am still researchering schools. Just look at Everest again! I want to come back home!!!

Hey sirena922, when do you plan on testing and attending tspn. I am also thinking about taking the drive, maybe we could car pool or something. are you doing the day or evening program. Im thinking about the evening program as I work during the day. When are you taking the net test?

Hey Peekaboo & Porkey! 1st I found out about the payments through the No Work Left behind Website (mycareereducation.org, put in LPN in the keyword search)it will give you a list of approved schools for traing along with the contact #'s. I called TSPN and got a info packet which gives you the dates to take the test. Right now I'm just studying because I don't want to get into the program until next year March maybe. They are only offering the evening program once a year and its in September and its 18 months, tooooo long for me. I asked the lady will they have one next year, she said she wasn't sure. So I'm thinking about driving there this weekend just to find it. I've been to an Info meeting for PSI which cost a little more but you don't have to take that CNA class to get in. If all else fails I might apply for them too, but I'm not sure if Michigan will pay for them, I didn't see them on the list and I might have just enough loan money left to attend there.

O, and Everest was too high but they are also on that website I provided for you. No Worker Left Behind will pay for them too up to $10,000, but I'm not sure how they break that down since your only allowed $5000 a year for 2 years. The site for that is michigan.gov/nwlb. You'll have to attend one of their information meetings. That's how people are getting into that new LPN program thats through Oakland University/DMC. But with this one you have to be a Detroit resident.
