WCCCD starting in January 2009

So, I am so nervous about starting the nursing program next semester. I am just wondering what to expect. I am hoping to find out some ways to prepare at the orientation next week. I'm wondering if anyone who is or has been in the program has any good advice, or if anyone else starting feel sthe same

I am starting the program this January and know exactly how you are feeling. I can't wait for Tuesday. I hope it will clam some of my nerves. If I hear anything I will post it on here. See you Tuesday!

For your orientation, take some cash - you may be able to buy your name tag and patch(es) there. We were able to last summer.

Other than that, just rest up. It will be here before you know it. I don't think you can really prepare for it, just be ready to run when it starts.

Good luck, and congrats on getting in

Just finished my first semester! The advice I can give is this: pre-read before lecture. If you have Mrs. D for lecture then record her lectures and listen for key points that she repeats in class. Listen to her stories too, they are usually a clue to some questions. If you have Maddie, then know those modules inside and out. The first 7.5 weeks are really like bootcamp. Be ready for the ride of your life...very well worth it in the end though. Try to balance out your time to each class, figure out early which class is easier for you (some people found lecture easier and some found lab easier) and focus more of your time on the one you have trouble with. Take really good notes and with lab, practice, practice, practice! I would recommend spending 2-3 days a few hours each practicing especially if your having trouble.

Nur112, is another story. If you have Maddie, again know those modules inside and out. If you have Matt, RECORD his lectures, take really good notes in class and then go home and relisten to the lectures and fill in your notes with anything you missed. Focus on your notes! If you ask the class a question it will more than likely end up on the test.

Overall, take a deep breath! It isn't easy, but it is so do-able. Hope this helps! Oh and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

First off CONGRATS! Pat yourself on the back for such a great accomplishment. I am starting MS 3 and Psych in January. I will tell you a bit about my experience so far. Foundations Lab and Lecture will run your life for 7.5 weeks, you will feel like there is not enough time in the day to do everything you need to do. Just learn how to manage your time and you will be fine. I found that making notecards for material was really helpful for me. I had Maddie and Caroline and they are both EXCELLENT teachers. Don't be afraid to ask them for help or clarification of anything. For 118 make sure you really learn how to do a proper assessment, it will benefit you sooo much in the long run. MS 1 I had Ms. Desouza, very hard teacher, doesn't lecture at all and really doesn't give you much guidance. My only advice for this is know your book inside and out. I took Pharm over the summer with Maddie and it was probably one of my favorite classes but is VERY challenging. With Pharm it is a lot of memorization but I would HIGHLY recommend taking it by itself and with Maddie or Caroline. OB I had with Kennedy, but she is not teaching it this coming semester, I believe it is Reily, who I have heard is a very good teacher. With Kennedy the tests were very straight forward just make sure you do your reading and all the answers are there. I wish I could tell you MS 2 was easier, but it has been one of the hardest classes I have EVER taken. Ms.Esch is the only teacher for the class, she is a very sweet woman, but her tests are brutal. The final exam is 100% mind-boggling questions long. I would recommend with her class to supplement your reading with Brunner's Med Surg book (I bought it online for 15 bucks) she will tell you she doesn't lecture from it but that is NOT true. None of this is meant to scare you, only here to enlighten you. Study hard, read, read and reread and you will succeed. If you have any questions feel free to let me know. Best of luck!

orientation was yesterday and it was one of the most stressful experiences of my life. They were so unorganized, but even though I was one of the last people called I got a pretty good spot. Toward the end they added 2 more spots to all the modules, which was good for me, but I felt bad for the people who had gone before and had to pick a spot they really didn't want, is this something that happens a lot?
