Wow, it will vary everytime. I have not seen (heard) it lower than 3.32 for the accepting GPA (and that is hard). Even if you meet the basic requirement of a 2.5 GPA, they will take from 4.0 GPAs down.

Reality Check.......

Yes!, you will need better grades than that.

I am going into med/surg 4 this fall at wcccd. Of the 120 students who i started with there are only 56 left. Most us us had 4.0 going in,already worked in the field, and are still struggling to stay alive!!!

Getting in is not the hard part. Staying in is brutal.

If you only have a 3.0 you will have a very hard time getting in. You must be getting A's in all your science courses at least. If you have any C in a science course they might not even look at you. You have to realize its a numbers thing, 1,600 people for 120 seats and only 40-50 graduate!

I would start re-taking all your science courses and try to bring up that GPA. Plus you will need the reinforced knowledge. If you can't ace A&P 1&2, Patho, and Bio....then it will be very hard to even pass the Nursing lectures

I am not trying to discourage you by any means ,...but just to let you know the reality of it. I have many freinds who were not "ready" for the program, and even though they were accepted,..have been dropped because of the pressure and intense un-real workload. I feel bad because they have spent so much time and money.

So next time you are at the application meeting, remeber that as you look around..only 3 out of 100 standing in that big auditorium are going to actually graduate from handing in that application! And ask yourself, can you beat out the 97 people standing next to you.

Good luck and keep us posted. Also if you any other questions at wcccd nursing pm me.

Hello.
I know it is so hard to get in...and even harder to stay in...but I am so ready to do it. Once I put my mind to something, I rarely give up. I have taken all my pre-reqs and co-reqs (except for lifespan and med math which I'm taking this summer). I am applying for WCCCD next month. I had taken English at EMU when I first graduated high school, and assumed it would transfer, but it was a higher level, so I am taking English 119 right now, online, which is so much more difficult for me than any of the science. Mainly because my instructor is all over the place, and is not very clear of what is expected of us. I have gotten A's in all of sciences except Micro...I got a B in that one.
My GPA is going to be either 3.6 or 3.7, depending on what I get in this English class, and I am so nervous. I got an 81 on my Net, but I just took it again to see if I could do better. I am trying to completely jump into this. If I get accepted, I'm quitting my job and giving it my all....Do you think I will be ok? I am really nervous about the 3.6.
Oh, one more question, I transferred my English 2 class and my Government class from EMU, but the grades don't transfer, so how do they configure a GPA for that?

It all really depends on the group of people that apply when you do. I have heard people getting in with lower GPA's than yours, but the last few semesters the GPA's have been really high and the cut off at 3.3, if you have time, I would retake something to get it up a little higher. Good luck.

I had to respond to this, even though the poster makes very valid comments, I did have a C in Micro, I did not have a 4.0 and I am in the program and making it happen. It is very hard, and the comments about doing well in A & P 1 and 2, Patho are very correct. You must know your stuff in those areas. Hang in there.

Im not in the program yet, and I have a 3.8, after this semester Ill have like a 3.6.. I dont think you HAVE to have a 4.0 to make it happen. YOU HAVE TO WANT IT, and MAKE IT HAPPEN. Good luck, and hang in there

You are very, very correct. "YOU HAVE TO WANT IT", it is stressful, and there are days when it all seems too much, in the beginning especially. The schedule is hectic and the work load very heavy, but it is very doable and you have to keep your chin up and study a lot. That is just an adjustment, getting organized and studying like never before. I really enjoy it, despite it's load. I am learning many, many things. Good luck to you.

You dont NEED a 4.0 it just makes it that much easier for you to get in. I think on my round we had the lowest in at 3.3 that was last fall.
As it was mentioned above staying in is the trick not getting in. Good Luck!
