Wayne's Clinical attire

So I got my acceptance packet and the sheet for appropriate clinical attire was kind of vague. I just got white polos because that seemed pretty straight forward as did the white knee length lab coat but the pants were giving me trouble.

White elastic waist or drawstring pants that may or may not have a cargo pocket was the option listed. Later down the sheet it said NO SCRUBS. The description of the white pants I'm supposed to buy sounds a whole lot like scrubs to me.....

So anyone in the program what kind of pants did you buy? I found some pants at a uniform store (one that was on the list of places to get supplies) that I would consider scrubs but they are definitely nice and fitted and look nicer than your average scrub. Do you think these are going to be ok?

I'm just crazy and like to get all my ducks in a row. I already ordered my background test and scheduled my physical for next week with the appropriate titers and drug test and filled out my liability insurance application. Of course I started to look for my clinical attire an hour after I got the packet I'm kind of bummed we have to wear all white. At least I can bleach it. I guess I'll be buying nude underwear in bulk though white pants are really see through!

You'd be surprised at the people that don't choose to wear nude or white underwear under their white uniforms .

Those will be fine. When they say no scrubs, they mean your standard scrub top with one pocket at the top- the pants are fine. And they will tell you (several times) not to wear colored underwear- but ppl still do.

It *does* suck to be wearing white scrubs all the time. Especially at 6:30 a.m. when you're walking into the clinical site- looking like a ghost! The only break from the whites is Peds.

Just go out to a Life Uniform shop and buy whatever white pants you can find. They do have petite/tall and plus sizes too.

Essentially, the pants are scrubs, but the school is more concerned with the top. You can either have a plain white polo or the button-down, short-sleeved white jacket.

I'd stick with nude underwear (no thongs!) just to be on the safe side.

When you go to your orientation, make sure you buy more than two of the green uniform patches. You'll probably use only two for your first clinical, but you'll definitely need more than that during your second year.

You actually DON'T want to bleach the white uniforms. 1) After so many loads, the bleach does start to degrade the fabric, making it thinner and weaker (as if the pants aren't thin enough!) 2) You'll have the green patches sewn on one of the sleeves. If you bleach it, the green fades to a nasty color.

Wayne State Katie!!!!! I am sooooo happy for you! OMG! It's been so long since I've checked back on this site and I'd wondered how things worked out for you. So I take it you're starting anyday now? Please let me know how things are going. I heard they only accepted 48 students TOTAL which is very suprising for me to find out. I know u are excited. Congrats!

I know there aren't alot of WSU students on here but maybe u can pass the word along. I'd love to chat with a few senior year grads. Once I'm done with my pgm next may I'll be applying to the RN-BSN pgm which thrusts you into the senior year of WSU nursing pgm. ENOUGH about me GOOD LUCK TO YOU! I know you're going to rock.
