Wayne State University Traditional Program

by ikenna

Ok, I posted here sometime last year. I have already applied to the WSU traditional program. I"m finishing up my last pre-req. A&P. Already in the semester, I have destroyed any chance of me getting an "A". If I get a B, my pre req gpa will be a 3.39.( all of my classes have been at wayne state) ( My overall will be a 3.6). Is there anyone on this site familiar with WSU's traditional program?? Are my chances at getting accepted officially ruined. What is the lowest GPA usually accepted? Should I look at other options??

I'm a first-year traditional student at Wayne State. Here's the admission priority order on the CON website. If you have any questions/doubts/uncertainties, it would be in your advantage to discuss them with one of the admissions officers. They are very helpful and they understand how stressful it can be trying to get into nursing school. Plus, they get to know you that way.

From the sounds of it, I think you should be fine getting into the school, but then again, I don't want to make promises because anything can happen. My overall GPA was about a 3.2. I had to retake some of the science pre-reqs to raise my science GPA to a 2.9. I took all my pre-req classes at Wayne State which was an advantage, but there are a number of students in my nursing class who completed everything at a community college.

I totally understand how stressful it can be. I was a complete nutcase all last winter and spring up until mid-June when I got the acceptance letter. I was so afraid that I wouldn't get in with all the science retakes I had. I only applied to Wayne State's Nursing school and nowhere else. UofD-Mercy screwed me over, and OU had a too long of a waiting list. I had absolutely no backup at all, I just couldn't afford to be in school forever, and I still can't! I hope everything works out.

If you have any other questions, my email is as3163@wayne.edu.

Nurse Re: Wayne State University Traditional Program
I am glad to find something on here about the Wayne Traditional Program.

I frantically check the mail everyday but I suppose I will have to calm down and wait patiently until June when my acceptance or rejection letter arrives.

I haven't taken all my classes at Wayne, but I have a 4.0 science prereq GPA, and an overall prereq GPA of 3.9 but I didn't take all my classes and science classes at wayne so I'm a bit worried now that they changed the admissions criteria. I took orgo/biochem and micro which are two of the three hardest prereqs at Wayne and got As in both so hopefully that will be taken into account.

Wayne got rid of the goal statement which I think would have helped me out too. (I took some time and semesters off of school which I would have liked to explain.....) and they say they look for full time scholarly achievement which makes me worry about my time off.

My husband keeps saying "if you get in" when I talk about fall classes and now he has me freaking out doubting myself.

Seems like most of the stuff on here is about CC programs so I was just happy to find something Wayne related. I'm thinking positive thoughts for the both of us for fall admissions

I think my goal statement is what really helped me out. My cousin, who is an RN, gave me awesome ideas and phrases to include in the statement. I didn't even realize that the CON got rid of it. That actually sucks.

If you really feel the need to explain yourself (or possibly sell yourself to the school!), maybe write a letter to the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) explaining that since there is no goal statement, you still want to straighten out a few things and clear up a few possible misconceptions. I don't see any harm in doing that. Or you could make an appointment with your admissions officer (the link is above). I think the OSA really likes that because it shows that you are attempting to make yourself known to them especially since there is no required interview during the application process.

If anybody wants any help/advice, my email is as3163@wayne.edu. I'm finishing up my second semester of nursing school so everything is still fresh in my head.

Thanks so much for your advice and thoughts. (I would click on the thanks button but my hard drive crashed and I'm on an unfamiliar computer and don't see that option using this browser)

I hadn't thought about sending a supplemental letter to the OSA and I have never actually gone in and met with an advisor in the CON so it might not be a bad idea to get my face out there.... I've just sent in all my transcripts and done everything online.

I always thought it was kind of weird that they didn't have interviews or an actual application beyond filling out your name, address, and sending your transcripts. I don't think they get that many apps that an essay is out of order-- especially once the candidates are narrowed down.

I suppose I better get to drafting that letter and hopefully I'll see you in the Cohen building come fall semester.
