Wait list or GPA schools

Can anyone tell which schools have a wait list for the nursing instead of basing it on GPA? Also do you have to be currently enrolled in the school to be put on the wait list? Thanks!

HFCC is strictly waitlist. I don't know the answer to your second question. Good luck!

Oakland university will take anyone who meets the basic requirements (passed all the prereqs they require with at least a C+ I think you have to check exactly what they are on the website/ info session) but waitlists are super long (about 3 years before you can start I think and I've even heard people that were scheduled to start this past jan that got bumped back). That's a huge reason why I didn't even bother applying there since I'd be sitting around for the next 3 years when I could be DONE with a program in that time and could start working.

Personally I'd try and get my GPA up an apply to schools that admit once a year based on achievement because you can start right away versus waiting around for years to start a program.

Good luck to you!

Schoolcraft is wait list only if you meet the criteria. I hear different stories on the length these days. I applied in Spring '06 and started fall '07, even though I was scheduled to start in '08.

Are you sure that Oakland University has a waitlist policy? How did you find out about that?

Because I went to the info meeting and they told me "they do not turn away qualified applicants" meaning anyone who met their minimum criteria. They said even if I finished my prereqs and applied the semester I attended the meeting that I would not be able to start in the nursing program for at LEAST a year and a half... I told them I was interested in Wayne's program as well and they said "oh well that's really hard to get into. They only admit once a year and you're in or out and you practically need all As" to which I said that wasn't a prob I have a 3.9 in the prereqs with a 4.0 in the sciences. They said that they didn't turn away qualified people like wayne so I would have to wait to get into the oakland program because there are a lot of applicants ahead of me chronologically.

I went a little over a year ago and that was their policy. If you think it has changed you should check with their office but I know a girl who is still waiting for her start date and it's been well over a year and they pushed her back another semester

Okay, thank you, I just wanted to make sure that it was correct, I will have to go to a info session just to make sure, it does seem like a funny policy, you don't want to have to wait around forever to start a program and get your career going, but it also means that if you meet their requirements you get in and to me it is a plus that if you don't have a 4.0 you still have a chance at pursuing that dream. So its not a bad deal, but i'm not sure about waiting years to get into the program, i'm assuming that if your gpa is high you will probably get in before someone who is just at the 3.0 mark. I will go to the information session to make sure that is their policy. Thank you so much for responding!

I don't think they differentiate by GPA. As I understood it everyone who meets the requirement is placed on the list. If someone who has a 2.8 applies before someone who has a 4.0 the person w a 2.8 would start before the 4.0 student. I think they just take into account WHEN you apply not really the GPA.... Double check though by going to an info session. Good luck in pursuing your dream.

My sister transfered from HFCC to WCCCD because I guess at WC3 they admit according to GPA level. Her's is 3.9. She'd probably wait at HFCC for a year before she could get into the program there.
