The Net!

by NW47

HI EVERYONE, I JUST TOOK THE NET AT SCHOOLCRAFT COLLEGE YESTERDAY. I WALKED AWAY FROM IT FEELING A BIT UNSURE. I FELT THE PRESSURE OF HAVING TO BE TIMED, I DIDN'T GET THROUGH ALL OF THE READING COMPREHENSION, I THINK I DID OK ON THE MATH PORTION. NOW I HAVE TO SIT AND WAIT TO SEE IF I PASSED. I AM CURRENTLY A L.P.N FINISHING UP MY PREREQUSITES FOR L.P.N TO R.N PROGRAM. ANY ADVICE ON HANDLING THE STRESS JUST IN CASE I DIDNT PASS AND HAVE TO TAKE IT AGAIN. THANKS

Hi I just took the NET at WCCCD yesterday too. I walked away feeling the same way. Is Schoolcrafts test on the computer or paper? I really don't have any suggestions about how to deal with the stress, but I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone!

I was in the same room with you (Schoolcraft) taking the test and didn't feel too overwhelmed by the time limits. I did notice that there were some people shaking their head after the first hour. I think the NET is over hyped and made difficult by not allowing people the time to understand what is being asked of them.

What bothered me was the proctors yelling and harping at the people taking the test. They would harp about procedures, then proceeed with reading a book during the testing periods, and then scream if someone started doing another section or was found to be writing in their test booklet. They need to be a lot more professional in administering the tests and start booting those people who can't follow the simple directions - enough with the screaming and degradation which only serves as a distraction to others.

Good luck on your scores!!

Do you have the NET study guide? There are resources on the NET to get more practice. Hopefully you didn't fail but if you did, you get 2 more chances and just review where you messed up and PRACTICE, PRACTICE,
PRACTICE! Now you know what to expect so if you do have to retake, you already know the layout of the tests! Remember, stay positive and realize you CAN do this!

I took the NET (at Schoolcraft) a few years ago and felt the same way you do. The reading part was tough for me. I tend to be a slow reader, and did feel very pressured with the time limits. Luckily I just barely passed that part - the Math was easy for me.

Don't get too worked up until you get your results. If you don't pass the reading, there is a very good review section on Henry Ford CC's website that you can find by doing a search on older threads - a lot of people here seemed to use it. I would have, too, if I knew about it when I needed it.

Good luck!

Thats an awful feeling; at HFCC you know right away. Once you finish and submil a printer in the back prints off your scores. I perfer that so much more I hate having to wait with that stress until you finally find out. So have you found out yet?
