Should I go for my CNA while waitlisted for RN?? Can't find a hospital job!

I need help figuring out what to do! I am about to go on the waitlist at HFCC for the RN program. I will have 1-2yrs, and only one or two semesters will actually be productive (I will take the co-reqs, such as A&P, etc).

I started looking at hospital job sites to see if I could get my foot in the door anywhere. Although I have a fabulous paying job right now, it is 45hrs/wk, and I just can't schedule classes around it anymore (I work 7-6pm M, T, W, Th), it's impossible! So I told the family I am with (I'm a nanny) that starting in the Fall I'd have to leave them so I can have more flexibility with classes. I have to put school first, even if I will be broke and possibly homeless.. haha.

The problem? I can't seem to figure out how I will get my foot in the door at a hospital. I have never worked in health care, so the only jobs I'd be evenly remotely qualified for are patient transporter, clerical (not involving med terms, which I have no knowledge of yet), etc. I have been searching around and these types of positions just don't seem to be available. I have looked at DMC, Henry Ford Health System, St. Joe's in Ann Arbor, U of M Ann Arbor, etc. I am seeing a few jobs for CNA's though.

SOOO my question is... Should I get my CNA while waiting to get into the Nursing program?? I really feel like I should try and get into a hospital for the experience, but I don't know HOW!

Thanks so much, and sorry for the long post... I'm just frusterated and don't know where to go from here..

you dont need your cna to work in a hospital its up to the unit manager but you do need it to work in a nursing home also at WCC they require you to have your cna for thier nursing program now! I know a few people at the UofM that have started out as a patient attendant (sitter) and in the housekeeping departments and got to know unit managers and came on the floor as an aide that way. I am an aide now and I cant even begin to tell you how much I have learned!
Good luck
