Schools with no wait?

by kellia

Hi, we live near Flint, but are about an hour from Detroit, Lansing, Saginaw and Ann Arbor, so I would drive if needed. I called Mott Community College today, they have a 3 year wait to do your clinicals! I already have a BS in marketing, so wouldn't need much pre-req, though I know I will have to take a couple Biology classes since it's been a few years. Anyone know of any schools that don't have much of a wait? What is the norm? Haven't decided if I want to do 2 or 4 year, this would probably be a deciding factor!

Also, anyone done Oakland Univ's 12 month program? That is where I graduated from the first time.

Thanks for any advice!

Hi Kellia,

I attend school at Baker of Owosso. The program there does not have a wait list. It goes on a point system. If I am not mistaken, the Baker of Flint is the same way. Both of these programs are ADN programs. PM me if you need any phone numbers or more info.

I'll be applying to Lansing Community College. They don't do a wait list but rather a point system as well. I should have enough points to get in right away. www.lcc.edu if you want more information on their program.

How exactly do the point systems work? Do they go by grades?

If you want to apply to Oakland Community College for the Sept 2008 start, they are going by GPA rather than a wait list. You have to apply before Dec 15, 2007.

Thank you! I have called or sent emails to all of those schools! My next question- looks like I have about 4 classes to take for all of the schools since mine have been a few years. I could easily have those done by Fall 2008, but it looks like you have to have them done before you can apply? And if you have to apply 1 year in advance, what are you supposed to do with the year you are waiting to see if you get accepted?? Am I missing something?

The point system at LCC is based on a few different areas such as residency, gpa, # of credits taken, any prior degrees, and healthcare experience. The max number of points you can get is either 90 or 91 and last years admission period you had to have at least 74-75 points to be competitive. You can see all the info at www.lcc.edu/nursing/

Hi, I am a pre nursing student at Flint, Baker. The do work by a point system and yes is goes by grades. They use your honor points. You get extra points for NOT retaking classes (for better grades) and you have to take a prenursing exam that will also go towards your points for admission. Also, they accept 60 students a year. 30 for fall and 30 for winter. I have heard that the nursing portion is very difficult here and that you have no life while in the program. But I say that 2 years isn't that much if you consider the fulfillment of the career.

Also I have heard that Mott is now a 5 year waiting list.

Good Luck

MCC (Macomb CC) dose not have a wait list. I am applying for the fall 2007 program. You may have to apply for fall 2008 as you are too late for 2007. Let me know if you need more info.
