Relocating, any good hospitals?

Hi there,
We are looking to relocate to MI. We are looking at Traverse City, Ann Arbor areas... any advice? comments? on the hospitals in these areas? Any other areas we should look? We want to buy land and build a house, and my husband is originally from MI. Thanks!

Hi,
If you do a search, you should get some good suggestions. I live in the Grand Rapids area and feel it's a great place to live. Land is cheaper on this side of the state than the east side. I like the people on this side of the state a lot more too. The hospitals over here are Spectrum Health, St. Mary's and Metro Health. What is your specialty? Good luck on your move!

Editing to add: Ok, I see your specialty is NICU and PICU. I know Spectrum Health has an excellent NICU and PICU. I know St. Mary's has a NICU, not sure about PICU, and Metro does not have either. Good luck!

In Traverse City, there is Munson Medical Center. Near there is also a hospital in Petosky (can't think of the name of it....). Also Paul Oliver Hospital in Frankfort. Manistee is West Shore Medical Center and Ludington is Memorial Medical Center. Muskegon has Mercy Healthcare (recently merged with Hackley Hospital). Right of the top of my head those are the ones that I can think of. Good luck in your search, Michigans economy is making it a bit difficult at this time.... With the recent merger of Hackley and Mercy in Muskegon, they are not doing any hiring at this time. For the rest....I am not sure.

If you relocate to Ann Arbor, there is U of M. Some area hospitals are on hiring freezes.

I currently work at University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor. I LOVE it!!! I am moving soon and I am so sad to leave. The benefits are great! Plus, the nurse to pt ratio is very small, currently on my floor which is adult cardio stepdown, we have 1:3 on days and 1:4 on nights if full. There is self scheduling, self picking of pts for acuity and continuity of care purposes. There is Mott Childrens hospital which is currently being rebuilt. We have a new CVC (cardiovascular center) hospital, the Cancer center and the main hospital. So plenty of choices. I know that we are on a hiring freeze for non-patient care positions but not for nurses or techs. Hope this helps.
