Question for Henry Ford employees...

by TurnLeftSide Premium Member

Do you know if we are allowed to work full time and then work contingent at another hospital. I work downtown and I want to work contingent at Cottage. Are we allowed to?

I am doin' it also. I work full time at HFHS, and contingent at SJH. It doable and I get paid every week due to both hospitals getting paid on the opposite week of each other. Is Cottage Hospital part of Henry Ford? If it is, it may be considered overtime on your check, its like a primary and secondary thing on your check. I did at SJ before I left to work full time at HF.

Yeah, Cottage is part of Henry Ford now. They bought it when Beaumont bought Bon Sceurs. I'm gonna call HR tomorrow. I have friends that work contingent at cottage and I really would like to work contingent with them. I was thinking about St johns because they have flexchoice. But I don't know what the ratios are like at that hospital. I work contingent at WBH and I only make 27 bucks an hour because I am unit specific

At SJH, flex choice has many options to choose from. I am an option 2 in which I make $32.50. But the staffing there is getting ridiculous. I work on a unit which is fast paced so its not that bad, but seeing that you are an ICU nurse you probably will be fine in those units. But choosing Cottage Hospital might be a better choice due to the fact that SJH is going through some financial turmoils causing alot of nurses to leave.

I would imagine that any extra work time you pick up at another Henry Ford facility will be considered over and beyond the work required for your full time job and will thus, be rated as overtime. When I worked in the ER downtown, some of the nurses liked to pick up shifts at a satellite ER over at Henry Ford Fairlane in Dearborn. They were being paid over time but I remember that it had to be approved by the manager at the Fairlane site. I'd ask the manager at Cottage because she will be the one hiring you and determining how much you'll get paid.

hey, i don't know how it works for the rest of the unit nurses but they're always stealing our ER staff to work there coz their shorthanded, so we have lots of people that do contingent there and full time at main campus. hope that helps
