Question about HFCC Financial Aid

by Flaird

I am just starting my pre-reqs at HFCC and have my award letter already but was wondering what happens if I only go part time? How do I know how much I am elgible for? I can't get ahold of anyone at the office. Thanks!!

Hi!

You have to have at least 6 credit hours to be eligable for aid. If you're planning on dropping classes and going down in credit hours, I believe you have to notify the office. I'm not 100% sure if going part-time will affect the amount you receive if you've already got the award letter. Keep calling that office.

Hope that helps,
Chandra

thanks so much for the reply! I do have 6 credit hours picked out. I just couldn't find classes so late in the summer that fit my schedule with work and still allowed me to spend some time with my 4 year old.

Going for 6 credits won't affect a loan amount, but if its a Pell grant it will cut it in half. In order to get the full amount of that you have to go full time.

I have a similar situation. I registered for 12 credits and got my award letter a few months ago. I took 12 because I needed the full award amount to pay for my nursing classes and books. When I spoke to a FA rep (after waiting 2 hours) they said by dropping the extra class and going to 9 credits my Pell would drop from $2300+ this semester to $1774. If you drop to 6 credits they give you 1/2 the full amount, 9 credits 3/4 of the full amount.
