Pay @ Royal Oak Beaumont

Don't bother. Beaumont isn't as good as everyone makes it out to be. The recently started Pay per performance and you only get one raise a year based on your evaluation. Plus, they are extremely short staffed. I worked there for five years and put in my resignation in January and started working at henry ford hospital in Detroit.

Anyhow, I made 27.10 when I left and I had two years of experience. I started working at Henry Ford Hospital and make a little more. HFH also has much better benefits and retirement. I live in Troy. Don't know where you are moving to but it only takes me 15 minutes to get to work.

Things that bothered me about Beaumont: Poor management. poor staffing. They expect you to take more admits despite how minimal the staff is. The docs are rude when you call them.

Environment is totally different at HFH. I love working there. I'm in SICU. Everyone is cool even the docs. They treat you like you are one of them

Also, my friend started working at Beaumont on the same unit I worked on before I quit. She was there 1 year and is now going to work in the EP lab. About 7 more people are leaving.

Don't believe everything you hear. I am at Royal Oak and love it. I just graduated and I don't think there is anyone in my graduating class making more money per hour. The Beaumont system has has the best nurse patient ratios I have seen yet. They encourage career growth, and help you out with tuition for school. Overtime is always available if you want it.

Unless Kati is singled everyday in the Henry Ford SICU(which I doubt), her ratios are no better than ours.

I work in SICU, don't know if I mentioned that. I have only 1-2 patients, no more than that. Thanks. I don't know what unit you work on, but the one I worked on, I was on for five years. Its a heavy floor and the ratios were ridiculous for the acuity of the patients. After I left, I'm hearing that other people are leaving. At henry ford, the benefits I feel are much better. I get paid credits for them.

When I was at Beaumont my medical benefits were expensive and I had the beaumont insurance. I only pay like 25 bucks per pay period at HF. Retirement is better at Henry Ford, I feel. I have a 403b at Beaumont/HF plus HF's retirement savings plan which they match. Tuition reimbursement is much higher at HF. For full-time which is what I am, you can get $3000. Raises don't go by pay per performance at HF either. I felt that whole system at Beaumont was ridiculous. Pay per performance doesn't even evaluate you at the bedside. I've seen alot in five years at Beaumont, trust me, I know what I'm talking about, thanks. It may be great in the ICUs, but in the EC and up on the floors it crazy.

I have been singled quite a bit actually. Just thought I'd mention it. As far as tuition reimbursement goes at beaumont, what is it? Like 1200 for fulltime and 600 for part-time? Like I said, its much better in the ICUs, not on the floors. I would have worked on 3east or 5east but I didn't want to work straight midnights.

Not only that, your "raise" is based on patient satisfaction (from Press Ganey results) and things that are out of your control, like the category of "growth": Score based on appropriate volume measurement for the

department/service line (i.e., IP Admissions, Births, EC Visits, IP/OP Surgeries,etc.). Based on 2007 Year-end Results.

Or how about "financial performance": Divisional ALOS—Actual/Budget. Based on 2007 Year-end Results. Use Organizational results if no Divisional results available. Royal Oak employees are receiving a "fails to meet expectations" for this category.

Employees are also scored in another financial category based on the operating margin.

Another "cute" idea - a random peer will have input into your evaluation.

If an employee is in corrective action - no raise for a year.

It's a big stinking pile of... well, you know. A good way for the corporate hacks to give us less than a 3% wage increase is what it is.

I loved WB when I started almost 10 years ago - but it has changed a lot, and not for the better. The medical insurance is expensive, and the pharmacy copays are really high - how about $200 for a month supply of a certain medication that I needed? I had to have my doc switch me to something else because I couldn't afford it - and here I am, working for a major healthcare system, and "insured".

I've been shopping around, and it is TRUE that HFH and St. John Health Systems both have better benefits than Beaumont. Yeah, we have impressive buildings/facilities, but...

I just have to say that since I have started working at HFH, I am very impressed with every thing so far. My insurance is great. They have a retirement savings plan where they take out 2-4% depending on how much you make and they will match it with 2.5-4.5% so I had to cut back on how much money was coming out of my check for my 403b. Teamwork is great here. Everyone helps out. My medical/dental insurance is inexpensive. I'm very impressed with everything so far.

I put all my heart into working for that particular unit at Beaumont. Did the managers care? No. I came in and worked overtime because they were short and asked me to. I never had any corrective actions nor tardies or call-ins. And when I got my evaluation I was in the "developing" category. I have been a nurse for over two years and RNs on that unit who had just started working there scored higher than me. The stress of working on that unit fulltime, short-staffed and poorly managed, was affecting my mental well-being. I had to go and I did and I'm very happy at HFH.

Oh...when I put in my two weeks, my manager gave me this weird look and said "it's different"

Kati2005, I hear HFH has great orientation program also. Did you feel they did a good job with orientation to SICU?
