Nursing at Baker College...

I am currently enrolled at Baker College for Dental Hygiene. But I really want to go into Nursing. I am just afraid of not getting into the program. I graduated high school with a 3.5, so I am pretty sure that I will do fine in college, but I just don't want to get stuck not getting into the program. I have a scholarship to Baker College, so I want to stay there and not transfer. And plus I heard that the credits at Baker don't transfer to other schools very well?

Are you asking if it is hard to get into the program? If so, I completed all of the prerequisites. I had all A's and one B. My GPA is 3.92. I did not get in. I know where I fell short and that was the NET test. One good thing that Baker does is give you an extra point when you reapply to the program. My advice is go for it but don't underestimate the importance of the NET.

I know that it is going to be hard to get into. I am going to work hard and have a good GPA and study very hard for the NET. But, i was wondering, if i do not get accepted into the Baker program will my credits transfer to another school where i could study nursing?
Thanks

From what I have experienced some will transfer but not equally. For instance, my A&P transferred to Macomb, it fulfills the requirement for A&P but it is only 3.3 credit hours. Microbiology transfers, but not Patho, Pharm or Holistics. This is just at MCC so I am not sure of other schools. Good Luck!

If you go to www.macrao.org you can see what credits will transfer to which school. It's a pretty cool website. You can either enter the college you are transferring from with the course name and they will show you the equivalents for certain schools. Or you can start off by entering the classes you need for the school you want to transfer to then enter the school you are transferring from (i.e. Baker) and it will tell you which courses they will accept. Good Luck!

If you are questioning going into dental hygiene it is best to stop and decide if nursing might make you happier.

As a dental hygienist of 30+ years, the job market in Michigan is extremely poor. Dental hygiene has changed.

Follow your heart and also be aware of the job market.

Best Wishes!

My advise to you is take your pre-req's at Baker and transfer them to Henry Ford and get on their waiting list. Unless you have a 4.0 AND almost all the points from the NET test, you don't stand a chance getting in at Baker.

Not certain what is so great and wonderful about Baker (isn't it a rather new program?), but I agree with Typhanie---get in as many pre-reqs as you can at Baker, keep your GPA at or near 4.0, then transfer to another, at minimum a BSN program, for your clinicals. There are many outstanding nursing instructors at every school, in every clinical setting...and just as many not so hot. Choose wisely and Good Luck!

I'm not sure which Baker College you guys and gals have attended, but I got into the program in Owosso with something around 3.6 gpa. I've taken classes at both Flint and Owosso, and found Flint to be too easy on the students. You could just memorize the class notes and basically get an A, no learning whatsoever.
To the OP I think it depends on which location you attend. I'm happy so far with my choice of school.

Did you have to take the NET, if so did you score well?
