I'm done with my second orientation and on my way to take the test next week. Question: I'm over 24 and living at my parent's house and supported by them. I'm currently unemployed but had an internship in the past 6 months with a W-2. For family income, do I need to provide proof of my parent's income in the application or just my own W-2 plus the registrant's statement to show that I'm supported by my parents are what they are looking for? Thanks!

Update on my progress with NWLB: Took the TABE test Monday the 4th, passed with flying colors. Then I scheduled my appointment with my career planner (they told we I could go right after the test and someone would call me to schedule that appointment, but I waited around until I could actually make the appointment right then and there), well she wasn't available until next Monday (11th), so I took it. Well I went Tuesday (5th) to work on my resume and afterwards went to my career planner to see if she had any cancelations this week, and she actually had one right then. So I didn't have to wait until next week. At this meeting you just sign paperwork, didn't need to bring anything. Now I just wait until the ITA calls me for a meeting for the final approval. I am cutting it really close, trying to get my summer classes paid for.
NWLBnoob- at my orientation they said if you have income of your own then you don't need to put your parents income. So I would go with your W-2 and the registrant. You can also talk to your caseworker about that.

asamouse: How long was your TABE test? I've heard you are allowed to bring in nothing but a pencil. Is this true? Were you allowed to write on the test to do your calculations, etc? Did they give you the result right away? Thanks!

nwlbnoob- the test is around 2 hours (i don't know if different center do it differently). This is how it was for me: I too thought I couldn't bring anything in, but other people had purses and bags, I had a folder and pencil. The person running the test had pencils for us to use and scrap paper and she just said no cell phones or calculators allowed. We had to do a pre test to let them know which test to give us (don't know why they need to give out different tests....) So if you got not many wrong you took Test A, if you got alot wrong Test D. I don't know what kind of practice study guide you got for the test, but my didn't come close to telling what would be on the test. Know your fractions ( how to add, divide, and multipy them), percentages, how to get circumference (circle, 1 question). Thank god I was already good at math because of a recent math class for the NET. And I got my results right away, not on paper but by her telling me. So then I told my caseworker what she said. They will give your results on paper to your caseworker. Hope this helps. But keep in mind I hear other centers may do things differently, this is my experience from the detroit center on MI ave.

I just found out the Michigan Works in my city is very backed up and not even seeing anyone about it until June. I am not sure if I can go to any Michigan Works or just the one where I live. I can't seem to find this information on the website and I have not had a chance to call and ask.Anyone know? and if so, anyone have a recommendation of which office to go to? I live in Oakland County if it matters.

I am going tomorrow to apply again now that my pre-reqs are done. Is there anything that I need to bring besides my license and the ID and password to my resume? Thanks! This is really driving me crazy. I took the tests and saw the career counselor , took the career test, yadda, yadda.
They told me I was qualified. Please someone here tell me, did NWLB give you money to pay for pre-req's for nursing school! Because I was told NO, and I know others that were told NO.
If you got money thru a Pell grant or some other form of govt aid to take the pre-req's be clear. That is not the same as getting money from NWLB funds.
I do know a couple ladies who go to OCC that got the PELL grants to pay their way, but I had to take out loans even though in my humble opinion they had more money than I did. Off topic I know. I dont work , cant afford daycare have 0 income and they were recieving unemployemnt bennies. I now have 1200 in student loans and still only qualified for a minimum wage job IF I could afford daycare,which I cant LOL.

They will only pay for a program that can be completed in 2 years. Prereq's are not part of the program, so no they will not pay for those. They will pay for all general ed, and everything else once you are accepted into the program however.

This happened to me the last time I applied, my program ended up being 3 years with the pre-reqs. I had to pay for the pre-reqs myself and then was approved for the actual program once I am accepted. They told me that if you get the pell grant they will use the pell first before the NWLB money.
As for the pell grant for the pre-regs yes I recieved them and and the Michigan tuition grant towards the end but together they did not pay the whole bill so I did still need other private loans. If you get your pre-reqs done and start the nursing program within 6 months they keep your info on file for the NWLB.
