New CNA Program at MCC

by inspire

Just wanted to pass along that Macomb CC is starting a CNA program. I got a postcard in the mail today. There will be an orientation meeting at South campus, Jan 20, rm 307 @ 10 am or 6 pm. Also Feb 17th, same times and rm. It says to reserve a space call 586-498-4000 or email continuinged@macomb.edu

You must have read my mind, I was wondering if someone had classes for CNA, does it say how long it is?

I go to the info session on the 17th of February. I'm wondering if you have to pay out of pocket or take out financial aid, does anyone know that?

CNA classes aren't cover by financial aid.. It may be alot cheaper to attend a community college since places like Red Cross charge 900... The only reason I stopped looking into CNA classes is because I don't and cannot afford to take a pay cut... Does anyone know exactly how much you can make an hour? I heard 8-9/hr...

I'm with you Ready2 on the paycut issue. I cant afford to either, so I thought about doing Cna per diem; the extra money wouldn't hurt.

In my admittedly brief stint as a LTC CNA I made nearly $12 per hour in Oakland county suburbs. This was for a unionized, licensed position, not for assisted living. I've never worked assisted living, but my understanding is that the starting pay in assisted living is substantially less than $12/hr. People who worked both told me that although the pay is less for assisted living, the resident population is much more independent.

Mynurse2b2010 are you still working as a CNA? Did you not like it? How was being a cna over all?

I'm a brand new hospital NA now. The fun part of being a LTC CNA for me was interacting with the residents. Since they remember the past so vividly I heard wonderful stories about life anywhere from 50-80 years ago. A lot of WWII memories, from both sides of the conflict. My ladies & gentlemen were appreciative. But when the chance came to work at hospital, I jumped at it, since I'm going to nursing school later this year.

I think I am going to go to one of these workshops as well, but I am with some of you on the paycut issue. I work full time now to save for nursing school (so I can hopefully not work full time once I get in) but if I will only make 8 bucks an hour I definitely don't even have the option to quit my horrible job in retail.
