need info on OCC nursing program

by Ms.RN

I want to find out how many students OCC accept into their ADN program each year and are there any NET or TEAS test required? HOw are students accepted into their program? Is it based on GPA or date of application? Is it very competitive to get into the program? Are students put on the waiting list if they were not accepted? thanks

A NET test is not required to be admitted, but you do have to take it after you are admitted.

Acceptance is based strictly on pre-req GPA. The GPA cut-off was around 3.5 - 3.6 for the class admitted to start Fall 09.

There is no wait list at OCC - if you don't get in, you have to reapply the next year.

Hope this helps!

Hi! Do a google search for oakland community college ADN RN and a brochure will come up with details about the program.

Basically, there are 11 required classes:

microbiology
anatomy I
anatomy II
English composition 1
English composition 2
Introduction to psychology
Introduction to sociology
Introduction to American government
Nutrition
a required humanities class (options include art appreciation, world religions and introduction to film)
a required physical education class

your gpa in the above classes will be calculated according to OCC's grading scale.

A = 4.0
A - = 3.7
B + = 3.3
B = 3.0
B- = 2.7
C+ = 2.3
C = 2.0

Anything lower than a C won't be accepted.

Your gpa in the above classes is given a letter grade, corresponding to the numerical equivalent I listed. Then your gpa is taken to the fourth decimal point. All gpa's are ranked.

They admit 216 people to their program. They will probably admit 293 if the accelerated program is going to happen this year (but they don't know if it will or not). Hopefully it will!!!

Last year's gpa cutoff was a 3.5740

The year efore that the gpa cutoff was something like a 3.62...

you have to take the math placement test at OCC

you also have to attend a mandatory seminar before you apply. There is actually one 2morrow evening! After that there is only one more, sometime in november. if you don't attend either one of those you won't be able to apply this year.

program deadline is december 15th, but if you still have prereq courses that end later (as long as they end in this term, meaning if a class ends december 21st thats okay)

you have to have a meeting with a counselor who will go through a checklist with you of what you need to do (needs 2 be done before december 15th)

you have to designate your home campus as highland lakes

you have to declare your area of specialization as Nursing

good luck
