Misdemeanor OCC

by fetachz

had my license suspended a few years back after to many tickets, then got caught driving, which is a misdemeanor.

this isn't on the list of misdemeanors that precludes you from getting in to OCC's program, but i'm still worried.

what should i do?

If you're that concerned about it I'd call the nursing department in the morning. Tell them your situation-- be honest and disclose everything and see what they have to say. No one on here will have an official answer for you-- only OCC's nursing department can provide you with that.

Hope it works out

I have a misdemeanor as well on my license and when I called they said any misdemeanor excludes you from the program. There are many other colleges out there, so don't lose hope.

Not trying to judge, buy why in the world would you think it is acceptable to drive on a suspended license after too many traffic violations???

You may have trouble getting into any program because unfortunately, thist lacks accountability and good judgment on your part. Not to mention the fact that this was only a few years back.

Regardless, I wish you the best.

You are absolutely right. But the point I was making (and it sounded harsh after re-reading it, so my apologies to the OP), is that we are held to VERY HIGH standards as future and current nurses.

That's all I was trying to say.

Best,
Diane

Default OCC Misdemeanor update
I called and talked to the nursing office and discussed my problems. I'm lucky that my lawyer had my misdemeanor removed from my record, but the nursing office states that "they are treating misdemeanors on a case by case basis" because the old policy, which excluded people with any misdemeanor, was causing to many problems with stupid misdemeanors like expired tabs and driving on a suspended.

so she said i would have been all good even if the lawyer didnt get it removed...

she said it dosent make sence for them to exclude people for those types of things.

SO make sure to pay your tickets or renew your tabs just in case!!

That is so great Feta! I was following your other thread. Everyone makes mistakes and I don't think that a minor misdemeanor should keep you from becoming a nurse. Now a felony is a different story. Anyway, I am glad to hear that it all worked out for you!
