Re: Microbiology at HFCC and Wayne state
AH yes. Currently Taking Micro 2200 with Dr. Phillip Cuntingham {hehehehe} Good Instructor well I mean he knows his stuff and he's pretty funny in a microbiologists kind of way.
1st we cover the whole book. 2nd we cover an avg of about 6-9 chapters extensively {every 2-3 weeks then there's an exam} including outside articles not discussed in class{and kinda not mentioned either so it's your responsibility to check blackboard and see whats new because there may be 1 question if any on the test versus 6 articles online.} Tests are worth 120 pts with only 30 questions. Does not clue you in on whats going to be on the test like some instructors making it VERY DIFFICULT to study because you must know EVERYTHING, every step of every life cyle of every aspect of every microorganism. With chapters being an avg of 40-50 pages its impossible to read everything unless you are bi-polar or an insomniac. There are plenty of students in the class who are TOO SMART for their own good. Pre-Med, nuclear physicists biochemical engineers blah blah blah {makes you second guess yourself like nurses are total retards}
On the upside He podcasts all his lectures and slides so you can skip class all semester {not labs though} and he also curves so that seemingly devastating 62 percent may actually turn out to be a B considering the class average was a mere 51 percent on exams and thats because the few rocket scientists that are also in the class managed to obtain a 120 on their exams.
Labs are ok. They are plenty work though and the Research Notebook... don't even get me started. I worked laboriously day and night recently to get it caught up so that I could turn it in for the last Notebook collection {there are 3-4}. Its a handful.
Check out rate my professor.com you'll find out the TRUTH. If you are typically an A student this class will truly humble you. I think I'm getting a B. with my life kids and all I'd have to had almost ended up in the looney bin to get an A with 3 other classes under my belt like Chem, Statistics and Anatomy FORGET ABOUT IT eh?
