I've taken BIO 2200 at Wayne State. The first time I took it I had Maria Rodriguez-Lopez. Her lectures are soooo boring, but the exams aren't very difficult, just a lot of information. I didn't learn very much from her though. When I retook the class, I had Phillip Cunningham. I learned so much from him, but he can be real *******. His exams were difficult with only 30 questions which is not a big window for error.

I don't know who teaches the class now though. It changes every year.

Cunningham is teaching the course this semester. I hear that his exams are difficult. Last semester, when i took the class, a new Prof., Dr. Kang taught the class. Dr. Kang was one of the best instructors I have ever had at Wayne. He tried his best to ensure that we understood the material, and he also tried his best not to trick us on exams. Not only this, but he also curved his grades. I heard that he got in trouble for giving too many A's and B's with this curve. If any of you guys have a chance to take him for micro, do it!! You will learn a lot from him--micro related, and life related. ( Sorry if this sounds too much like a rate my professor review )

AH yes. Currently Taking Micro 2200 with Dr. Phillip Cuntingham {hehehehe} Good Instructor well I mean he knows his stuff and he's pretty funny in a microbiologists kind of way.

1st we cover the whole book. 2nd we cover an avg of about 6-9 chapters extensively {every 2-3 weeks then there's an exam} including outside articles not discussed in class{and kinda not mentioned either so it's your responsibility to check blackboard and see whats new because there may be 1 question if any on the test versus 6 articles online.} Tests are worth 120 pts with only 30 questions. Does not clue you in on whats going to be on the test like some instructors making it VERY DIFFICULT to study because you must know EVERYTHING, every step of every life cyle of every aspect of every microorganism. With chapters being an avg of 40-50 pages its impossible to read everything unless you are bi-polar or an insomniac. There are plenty of students in the class who are TOO SMART for their own good. Pre-Med, nuclear physicists biochemical engineers blah blah blah {makes you second guess yourself like nurses are total retards}

On the upside He podcasts all his lectures and slides so you can skip class all semester {not labs though} and he also curves so that seemingly devastating 62 percent may actually turn out to be a B considering the class average was a mere 51 percent on exams and thats because the few rocket scientists that are also in the class managed to obtain a 120 on their exams.

Labs are ok. They are plenty work though and the Research Notebook... don't even get me started. I worked laboriously day and night recently to get it caught up so that I could turn it in for the last Notebook collection {there are 3-4}. Its a handful.

Check out rate my professor.com you'll find out the TRUTH. If you are typically an A student this class will truly humble you. I think I'm getting a B. with my life kids and all I'd have to had almost ended up in the looney bin to get an A with 3 other classes under my belt like Chem, Statistics and Anatomy FORGET ABOUT IT eh?

Wayne is hard as hell. I worked my tush off and pulled an A but that stupid lab notebook almost killed me. I also took it the same semester as orgo/biochem which was taught by a replacement upper level biochem teacher who did not teach it like an intro class. I worked super hard in that class too and was in the top of that class and actually recognized by the chemistry honors department for my outstanding achievement in that course. That semester I took 17 credits and was miserable but pulled a 4.0.

I'm living proof that even with an exceedingly difficult schedule(anthro, history, and nutrition besides the others) that you can pull an A with a lot of elbow grease. Unless you want to spend your time on nothing but studying every microscopic detail and HOURS on that dumb lab notebook (think staying up and doing it for 17 hours to finish it before it's due each time) I would suggest taking it anywhere except Wayne. You learn a lot but unless you're applying to the Wayne program where you are given preference for taking courses there I would never do it.

Hey CandyGyrl it sounds like you're taking a ton of classes at Wayne did you apply to their nursing program for the fall?

He's probably a gem compared to the instructor I had for Microbiology at OU.

Hey Kudos to you on that 4.0 great going. I just couldn't give micro enough study time to pull it off. I took too many "required" classes in one semester whereas I usually would have spread these out with classes like nutrition on psychology etc.

With 5am wake up-- fix breakfast--get kids dressed-- off to school-- go to classes-- pick kids up-- get home-- get dinner started-- help kids with homework/projects-- clean up-- get kids clothes and school stuff ready lunches and all for the next day--give baths-- then alas its 9pm or 10...

finally I can study. I know plenty of people oo that and then some --manage to work full time and go to school 14-17 credits and still manage A's I'm just not one of them.

As far as WSU nursing pgm, yes I've applied I just have to finish this semester with finals this week last day is friday and submit grades to the nursing dept. Although I've accepted entry into this accelerated pgm starting in May and I pretty sure I'm bailing on WSU until I return for the BSN.

Keep up the GOOD WORK
