Michigan wages

Hi all, I was wondering if someone could tell me how much a new grad makes? Also, are most of the hospital jobs union?

Ay University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, graduate nurses start at $21.68 per hour and are raised to $21.84 per hour after they pass boards. U of M is unionized.

Friend of mine is starting at $25/hr at Providence in Southfield. She'll be graduating in October of this year.

What a joke. Do you realize that I have 25 years of experience and the top of scale where I work is around 30/hr. I am glad new nurses make a decent amount because I started off with $8/hr, but it is still very discouraging. Just wait and see what I mean.

Sounds like you need to move. Seriously, where do you work? With that much experience you should be making a tidy sum. Plus, you could do travel nursing and make some serious money. I applaud your years of experience, but if you think you're not making what you should, you should take that experience elsewhere.

Unfortunately, I am in northern MI (as I imagine Wildcat81 is) and the wages up here are just not that great. The trade off is less traffic, crime, pollution, etc. I decided after several years of travelling that I'd rather make less money and live where I want.

Choices all have positive and negative results and we each must live with our choices.

PS we're unionized (I'm management) and top RN is about $26.

Don't forget to factor in benefits. At Univ of Michigan, the retirement is unbelievable. You put in 5% of your wages, and the university puts in 10%. Do the math and you'll see how that can add up after a few years. If you quit, you get all that money! So check into the bene's along with the wages. Marie

I've heard it's around $23-25 an hour in SE Michigan. Nurse techs make $15+ per hour.
