Michigan state university traditional nursing program!!!please give advice

Michigan state university traditional nursing program!!!please give advice


I just handed in the application packet for Fall 2009. just a little not sure where i am at....

I got a accumulative gpa of 3.85 for 5 semesters( science courses and other electives). i got both volunteer experience in hospital and work experiences in nursing home(I am a CNA).

Does anyone know how many people are applying each year? how competitive they are?? how good the program is?

And how possible i can get in!!???

I applied 3 times while at MSU and never got in. However, your GPA is higher than mine was. They told me the last time I applied (spring 08) that the average was 3.7. Each time I applied the GPA went up a little. I believe around 150-200 people applied. I also had volunteering and good letters of recommendation. My grades in biology and chemistry brought my GPA down. I did well in anatomy, physiology, and patho. They say they look at those more…but not sure.
I found it very difficult to actually talk with advisors that were honest about my chances. I do not want to scare you away and I wish you all the luck in the world. What is meant to be will.
I finally did get accepted into their second career program for the spring. However, I believe that I will be attending UofMs program in the fall.

Letters usually came some where between finals week and two weeks after.

So you mean that they will look at the science courses more? is that right??

You did scare me!!!so what GPA you had when you applied????
my 3.85..... is it competitive in terms of grades(i got A in all my science course)???????? please pleases tell. i mean i am really scared you can see the way i am typing...

The last time I applied I had a 3.4 so it was a lot lower than your. I think with a 3.8 you have a lot better chance than I did. I found that they really really only look at GPA and don't consider much else. They would never say so but I think they pretty much took the top 50 students. I could see this because I would e-mail and ask what the average GPA was and the cut off GPA was for those admitted and not admitted and how many applied. Usually the average was a 3.7 and the cut off was a 3.4.

Yes, they take your science courses seperate and look at just your science GPA for part of the application process.

Do you know how good the BSN program in state is? or compare to michigan??

Cause there is really no rankings for undergraduate nursing program...

My final decision to go to Michigan over State was based on having the UofM hospital right there and I felt like I would get more of an opportunity to see more. Also my boyfriend is in the Ann Arbor area for the next few years so I thought I might get more connection if I went to school there to get a job there in the future. Looking at some rankings I found Michigan’s programmed was ranked 5 compared to States which was 46. I was also tired of dealing with State and not getting into the traditional program 3 times, so I felt like I needed a new atmosphere.
I think they both are going to provide their students with a very good education. I have heard nothing bad about the education at either program.
