Michigan Nursing Summit - March 13 & 14, 2006

by MCN

The Michigan Nursing Summit will be held March 13 & 14, 2006 at the Sheraton in Lansing, Michigan.

The theme is Thinking From the Future and we are building a great program. Ed Barlow and David Ellis, both futurists are keynote speakers. Karren Kowalski from the Colorado Nursing Center will speak on "If You're Riding a Horse and It Dies. Get Off". Michigan's Chief Nurse Executive Jeanette Klemczak will also speak. There will also be presentations on exciting best practices from around the state make this a not-to-miss event.

For nursing to meet the challenges it faces in the future, we need to learn what we can plausibly expect in the years ahead, what our options are and what strategies others are implementing to solve workforce challenges. This Summit will help us to learn what we can about the future and enable us to think constructively and do things that will contribute to achieving a desirable future for nursing.

The future will happen, no matter what we do, but if we want it to be a good future for nursing, we need to work at it. The Summit will help us do just that!

Summit Objectives:
By the end of this Summit participants will be able to:
  • Identify current and future uses of technology to support nursing practice.
  • Describe best practices in workplace redesign to enhance recruitment and retention of nurses.
  • Describe strategies used to increase access, flexibility and capacity of nursing education programs.
  • Articulate the benefits of partnerships and collaborative efforts to create synergy and action.
  • Identify key trends in healthcare and factor this knowledge into their own organization and thinking
