Michigan area nurse agencies

There is an agency Critical Resource Inc. that pays 42.00 /hr. They are located in Brighton but you can fax all your info to them. I am thinking of going per diem with them to make extra money. I am in the process of looking for other agencies also.

If these agencies pay so much money, why would anyone want to be hired in through a hospital? What are the cons to working for an Agency? There must be some...

I believe that there is no health insurance or ant type of benefits involved.
They have alot of workers who get their benefits from their spouses in which is great because they get more money. And also there is lots of workers who work at the hospital 3 days 12 hours full time for the benefits and then work 2 days or either per diem for an agency which is great.
For some people working agency ROCKS and them their is some that it doesn't work so great.

I will keep my regular job and use the agency for supplemental income only. I know nurses who contract with agencies and have full benefits. This is a good way to go because the nurses will contract with a hospital for a certain number of days and the hospital has to use them or they are cancelled with pay. A con is that you will not be able to get the continuing education that a regular job will offer you such BLS ACLS or telemetry classes.

I know they still use contract nurses at the DMC. I would like to do agency nursing for a change of scenery also.

Hi! I am working for Coastal Health Professional Staffing and am contracted at Oakwood Hospital making $42/hr. I have been there for about 1 1/2 yrs now and its not too bad. I have worked for several other agencies and so far I really like Coastal Health the best. They offer health insurance and retirement packages. Oakwood is pretty good to their agencies nurses (but, like any hospital it has it's days). I haven't had to have "the heavier" assignment because I am that agency nurse! I write my own schedule and I am an overtime junkie and that doesn't seem to be a problem. Hope that helps!
