MCC Supplies

by inspire

I heard we needed to get a blood pressure cuff & eye protection. Anyone know if there is anything else that wasn't listed in the handbook that we need? What type of cuff did you get & how much was it? I am getting ready to order a stethoscope and would like to get everything at once. Thanks!

Of course, everthing you need can be found online - and you should be able to get it all from the same place if you choose the right supplier.

Try searching for DRG/Trimline, Riester and MDF together with the phrase "aneroid gauge" for the sphygmomanometer.

That's good to know. What kind of eye protection, like safety glasses? The manual says bandage scissors, stethoscope, a watch, and pen, did you hear of anything else? I need to make a friend who is already in the program so I can get the inside info too!

I wanted to double check, we wear our uniforms to lab the first semester, right? I see that my lab starts the week before class so I won't be able to check at class before it starts.

Thanks for the heads up about the extra equipment!

You don't need to worry too much about the BP cuff. It is only used ONE time in lab, so don't go crazy getting an expensive one. We never take them to the hospital. For actual clinicals you need: stethoscope, penlight, bandage scissors, black pens. That's about it ! I have not taken my protective glasses with me yet, I haven't seen a need for them. There is only so much we can fit into our pockets! Oh, you could buy a nursing clipboard. Some of my classmates have the hard plastic kind that open up and hold stuff (I'd never seen them before this week).

You should get the protective goggles...you'll do a day at the hospital during 1530, and depending on the floor you may need them. Same thing for all of the clinicals, you never know when you'll need them, so always bring them. If you don't have them the instructor can decide you're unprepared for clinical and send you home to get them. It's much easier to just come prepared!

What have you ended up using yours for? I haven't seen anyone in my classes even carrying them at all.

The latex free BP cuffs that I have seen are $40-50. Where can I find one less expensive?

I will loan you one for free . When do you start? You can't waste that kind of money for something you'll only use one day! Mine doesn't work great (the arm wrap part) but all you need to do is show up with one and you're fine.

Inspire,

I got my cuff and eye protection here for a good price:

http://www.schoolkidshealthcare.com/

Worth a look at least...type in eye protection for the goggles.

anurse2be09, thanks so much for the offer. I looked on the website Hoot gave and they had some for about $10.

Hoot is that about what you spen? They had a disposable one for $5, I wonder if that will work?

Thanks to both of you!
