I did forget about that...the head phone option. That is something to consider too. Because of the type of loss I have, it is only about 55% of a loss at it's worst (mid range), I don't wear my hearing aids as often as I could. (I have 4 kids under the age of 7... not being able to hear, isn't always a bad thing... Some sounds need no amplification, you know?) They do have that littmann 4000 (?) scope too. It actually has a display for the heart rate and stuff, you can even replay it. But that is just out of my price range.

I don't mind taking the aids out and putting them in my pocket, so I am thinking this is probably the best option for me.

That's not too bad of a loss, which is a good thing! As long as you have a amplifier stethescope then maybe you're going to be just fine! The breath sounds and gas sounds may be a little more difficult to hear but like i said before, see if you can try it out for a little while and exchange it for something else if it isn't good for you. for what we have to pay, we should be allowed to try stuff before buying for good, because it is pricey!

I did see the littmann 4000 and that is just crazy haha. It is cool though but yes very expensive. you should get it soon to practice so you know you're comfortable using it on patients! I am just so happy they make stethescopes for people like me because without it, i dont know if i'd be able to be a nurse today!! its so relieving and i'm very excited! I hope you find something that works for you and its not too expensive!!

Congrats all you newbies, look forward to fun with learning. I graduated in 1987, and have traveled many roads of different nursing experiences. Find some study buddies, it will make your learning more rewarding. We had a group of 5 and stayed together throughout our nursing labs and clinicals. We helped each other, cried and laughed together, and studied hard. Ok we went to Chi Chis often! Good Luck.. Have fun, and learn all you can!

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to check out the board here as well. Just learned about this website from a Micro peer (thanks Deb). I will be starting for sure in October but have requested August (me and 50 others). Hope to get to know you all. Best wishes everyone and congratulations.

Hey Tiffany! I'm Michelle, the girl that crashed your micro study time! LOL. I'm in the other micro class in the morning. I'll probably come around from time to time. It was nice to meet you, and if you don't get August, see you in October. I'm pretty sure that I'm in that start group too, and I also requested it.

Welcome to AllNurses!!!!

Does anyone know if we will be getting a syllabus with our start date no matter what month we start? I just want to get a jump on some reading even though i probably won't start until next year? Thanks.

I've been wondering the same thing Marie. I have some Nursing Students arlready in the program in my summer class. I can ask them, unless someone chimes in. They all said the 1500 is a TON of reading. So like you, I would like to absorb whatever I can as early as I can!

I found a great resource it's called audible.com. After looking over the courses that we will all end up taking for this program, I looked on audible.com to see if they had any nursing concept books. They do, for the most part they have all the major topics we will cover. I didn't check to see if they were the same texts we will use at MCC. I purchased Fundementals of Nursing; I think it was 20$. Basically, they summarize the key points for each chapter and then ask 15 or so review questions (NCLEX-Rn style). Each chap. is approx. 20 minutes. I put them on my ipod and exercise, clean the house, watch my kids double headers etc...... I plan on working through several of these books. Especially the topics that I feel may stump me up in the nursing program like fluids and electrolytes. I just thought I would throw it out there for any of you auditory learners who are looking for ways to get a jump start and like multi-tasking So far I'm on chapter five, and I really enjoy the content as well as the review questions.
